Friends/Families Support Group in NYC Area?

Hi All,

Tried posting this in support forum-but got new response. Hoping for some help here.

I was wondering if anyone from the NYC area knows of any support groups for families of people with crohns/colitis to attend to learn more about how to take care of someone who is suffering from this disease.

Recently, my fiance & my sister have been taking care of me. My parents seem to be out of the picture. They both want to learn more about the disease and how they can be more helpful & understanding.

I know sometimes we complain that people don't understand the disease, but I can't imagine having to watch someone I love go through what I go through on a daily basis having no idea that this illness even existed before I was diagnosed.

Anything would be helpful!

Maybe try contacting the CCFA local chapter and see if they are aware of anything...

I recently went to my first CCFA support group for crohn's patients and there was a crohnie there who brought in their boyfriend to sit in on the meeting. See if that is an option for you as well.

Also check with your doctors, local hospitals and their IBD/Gastroenterology Clinics.

You may also be able to find something at your local mental health facility as some offer support groups to patients and family for a variety of issues.

Heres a few interesting meetup groups out somewhere in NY where you could possibly connect with others that can point you in the right direction as well:

Best of luck.

I have no affiliation with the No Guts No Glory group even though I live in NY. They stole my name! Lol.

I know the CCFA support group is for patients mainly but family and caregivers are welcome too.

yea I forgot to mention that earlier. Meetup.com may also have chronic illness groups. You just have to search the site for them. I found one in chicago and unfortunately no one at the meeting had crohn's but there were some really supportive people there who understood what it meant to struggle with chronic pain and living a healthy lifestyle and finding people who understand.
