Hello! I'm new here...

Hello. I thought I should introduce myself... I've been diagnosed with Crohn's since 2004. I've been relatively symptom free since then. I've only had 3 relapses, currently experiencing the third... I thought it would be a good time to log in and put some things into perspective.

I've been very lucky with my Crohn's experiences. I've been able to avoid drugs, and I'm off Azathioprine (have been since 2006) and I've only had 2 courses of Prednesilone... since 2004 (sp?)

I've had my symptoms return since Feburary 2012, when I bought my first house with my partner (wonder if this is the catalyst?!). I was given a course of steroids, and they worked! I felt incredible. Shortly after I got a kidney stone, which wiped me out. The Crohn's relapse returned and has stayed this time.

I'm currently waiting for an endoscopy (Eurgh!) and until then, I don't know what's going inside. I'd just like to get to know some other folk who understand what a frustrating illness this is.

Anyway. I wanted to say 'hello' and hopefully make some friends. Moderators please put this in the correct forum if I've missed it...

Bolton,
Hi I'm new here as well and know how you feel. I've always found that stress is a major factor in the way I'm feeling and things have been very stressful for me recently!

We'll get there (wherever that may be!) in the end but thought I would say hello!

Hello to you too!

Yes, it could very well be the stress of house ownership. It wasn't the easiest of transactions and there was a lot of tension between ourselves and the vendor (cowboy!!!)

I did start to feel ok about a month ago, but alas, that was short lived.

Hope you're in good health despite your recent stresses!

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

I am sorry to hear that the tum has acted up on you again, I am glad to hear though that some up to date testing is being done to check on things inside. Do you notice whether certain foods aggravates things at all? What symptoms do you tend to get and have you vitamin levels ever been checked?

There is a lot of helpful info and support here so do have a good look around.

hey! welcome along.. there are plenty of friendly people on here to give you support and advice, so you definitley came to the right place!

i hope things start to improve for you soon!.. Im hoping to buy my first house this year, probably later in the year and have always had in the back of my mind that the stress of it all will probably cause me to flare, i suppose i will just have to wait and see!

Thanks!

I'm actually going through a few trials as I don't actually have any solid (no pun intended) patterns with what I eat. It could be coffee, it could be nuts, it could be wholegrain bread. Another theory is that it's milk! I've read a lot about a disease from cows found in milk that could be the primary cause of Crohn's...

I was taking vitamin supplement tablets, but with my kidney stone, my doctor said it could be the excess chalk that make up the tablets. Apparently, Crohn's sufferers are more susceptible to things like kidney stones.

I feel I have low energy levels and I'm depressed most of the time. Shame really. I stopped cycling about 2 months ago due to an injury, so I'm keen to get back on my bike to alleviate some of the negativity.

Thank you! It does seem like the right place for me right now, from what I've ready already. I look forward to getting to know some good people.

I hope that your purchase is a straight forward one! Ours was difficult because the vendor tucked us up with a cowboy refurbishment. There were unforeseen problems that we had to deal with months after the exchange. We managed to battle with solicitors and he ended up forking out to remedy the problems he had caused, which were utterly, *UTTERLY* terrible plumbing practices.

Like I said, I hope yours is a standard buy... Good luck too!

Did your doc actually test your levels or did they just say the tablets may be causing an issue with the kidney stone?
He said that it was likely the cause, I don't think my levels were checked... at least I can't remember being told I was lacking in anything.

Thanks for the welcome guys, great forum!

Hi downward slowly, I discovered, for me, that a lactose/gluten/sugar free diet really helped me get out of flares, but Ive been able to add things after becoming more pain free. I still cant go near things like nuts and coleslaw though. Official descriptions of Crohns say its not stress related - yeah right!!! I hope you get into remission soon!

Thanks! I'll see what I can cut out. What do you find is safe selection of lactose and gluten free foods?

I started buying lactose free milk and yogurt. Gluten free is more tricky so I used google but basically I replaced flour with sustitutes available at the supermarket. With sugar, I left behing all lollies and sugar in hot drinks and soft drinks, must admit I still have the odd cake or icecream and its all my own fault if my tum gets grumpy - it doesnt always tho. When my tum settles, I can break the rules but in a flare I found this regime helps moderate the pain. Remember that everyne can be a little different - but its worth a try, I was desperate and worked it out with trail and error for myself.

Waiting to hear from my specialist with a date for a Colonoscopy. Unfortunately I can't beat the symptoms. I've cut out almost everything!
