Help...

Hello all,
I have been fighting with my issues since May 15th.. They first diagnoised me with a gasternoic virus (i wasnt running a fever or anythnig) My symptoms are nauseous, stomach pain/spasms/constant dull sharp pain around 3-4in right of the belly button, lower right back pain, headache, fullness after eating. On June 8th 13 i had my gallbladder removed thinking that was the issue. After the surgery, i felt worse then i did before. Still same problems. I went to ER on Tuesday July 16,13 because i was dehydrated and i could not keep anything down.... ( starting throwing up KMOnday morning before i even starting the Prep for the colonscopy) They did a CT scan with contrast of my stomach and it showed that i had 2 different spots of my bowels that were inflammed. In the ER they gave me a prescription for Flagyl. I had a colonscopy the next day Wednesday july 17,13 adn nothing showed up but the GI doctor did take some biopsies...Is this normal for the CT scan to show one thing and the colonsocopy back normal?? Im at a loss and im tired of the pain and i just feel like im getting the run around.. Can anyone help me or have any suggestions for me??

Hi there and welcome,

Regarding the inflammation that showed on the CT Scan... what part of your intestines was inflamed? Your large intestine? Your small intestine? Do you know where specifically if it was the small intestine? I ask because often if it is the small intestine then a colonoscopy can't reach to the area of inflammation.

According to CT scan it says "Mild thickening of the distal pylrorus and first part of duodenum, which may be from infectious, inflammatory or peptic ulcer disease. There is mild ileus in the bowel loops. Findings suggestive of enteritis involving the distal ileum....

Hi There

I have been experiencing a whole heap of GI symptoms and had a Colonoscopy too. The Colonoscopy came back normal however the biopsies were returned with inflammation of the terminal Ileum.

Also I had an abdominal ultrasound that revealed a Gallstone and some sludge in the bile duct. this was followed by an MRI. The MRI revealed a gallstone, Bile duct was normal but the stone was larger than the duct. Theresfore a Cholecystecomy is required. in addition they found a Cystic Pancreatic lesion that wasn't picked up on the U/S.

So I guess different tests pick up what others miss. I hope you feel better soon .

Hey Tracy,

I guess thats why they do all sorts of different tesxt since some pick up things that others dont... Also my CT scan said that with the "mild illeus to the bowel loops with air-fluid levels in the colon, of the the distal ileum bowel loops appears to be thickened in the pelvis."

Thanks, Hope you feel better soon as well....

Is it possible to have Crohns and your Colonsocopy come back negative??
Hi again

Im not a Dr but I guess you can have a False negative or a False Positive. Two things my GI Specialist did ask me was " Have I been in contact with any patient with TB,or ever had TB" Have I been taking NSAIDS (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).

The above can cause symptoms that mimic Crohns. In my case the answer is No so Im having further tests. Also I was on high-dose antibiotics for breast sepsis for several weeks before my symptoms appeared.

A year ago my uncle was unwell. he had an MRI, Blood-tests CA19.9 and we were told he had a Pancreatic mass / Pancreatitis hence Pancreatic cancer diagnosis. he was admitted to hospital as he was so unwell. Around a week later he had a GI Bleed that wouldn't stop. He was rushed to theatre. They found the mass was clotted blood from a bleeding Ulcer and NOT cancer. So it can happen.

Although my GI suspects I have Crohns because of the acute inflammation in my Terminal Ileum I am undergoing further tests. It will be interesting if I get a false positive. Will keep you posted.

From experience what I would say is if your symptoms still persist you must insist on further tests. Hope it all goes well for you x
