Help

I was diagnosed two years ago by family doctor following ct scan and blood work with crohns. Have yet made it to gi for confirmation. I have constant pain in my upper left stomach. It was a dull ache now its just pain that spent go away. Sometimes it grows into drop you to your knees pain. I'm afraid to eat or even move anymore. The only meds I take is prednisone, multi vitamin, calcium, and b-12. The doctor keeps telling me to take Tylenol. But for what? That's a lost cause. Any advice?

Hello

I'm curious as to why you've not gone to a GI? although some doctors will diagnose crohns with a scan it's usually diagnosed with a colonoscopy as well. These allow for a clear view of the colon and provide an opportunity to see how severe the inflammation is and take biopsies.

Going to a gi will also allow you to have access to more specialised treatments. While steroids are a good way of dealing with flares they should only be used short term. Medications like Mesalazine (an anti inflammatory) and immunosuppressants are usually used to treat crohns long term, with biologics being used in cases where other treatments haven't worked out where the condition is severe.

My advice would be to get some more recent imaging done and see if you can get in with a gi. Pcps are great for day to day stuff but they don't have the in depth expertise to treat a complex condition like crohns and improper management can result in serious complications

I agree with the above. Get in to the GI to have a colonoscopy. I was freaked out about having my first one. But they are no big deal.

I want to third what the others said.

1. CT Scan and blood work does not make a proper Crohn's diagnosis, especially by a family doctor.

2. Your treatment plan is terrible and you're going to end up with severe health problems if you continue down this road.

Please go to a GI as soon as possible.

Definitely see a GI doc and get it taken care of asap. I was diagnosed via a colonoscopy like many others. Like inksade said, they are no big deal and should provide a good idea of what you have. Good luck!
