Hemorrhage/Bleed & Crohn's?

Hi Everyone, I am new here. 31 yo/female with a wondeful husband, two small children (2.5 and 6 months). Just in the process of being diagnosed this past week based on a biopsy and capsule endoscopy. In the past 2 months I have had two major GI Hemorrhages - both times I went into borderline shock (passed out, sweaty, blood pressure dropped, etc. ) and both required ICU stay. The first time I had 4 transfusions, the most recent my counts dropped substantially but fortunately did not require transfusion. I am curious if anyone else has had hemorrhage/bleeding as the first presentation of crohn's? I have no other symptoms besides a sore lower back (not sure if related). How was your bleeding/hemorrhage treated? Was surgery required? I apparently have ulceration in my small intestine near the TI which is causing the bleeding...and cobblestoning in my colon which does not appear to be causing any issues at this time.

I am seeing a Crohn's specialist at Baylor on Tuesday so trying to gather as much info as possible prior.

Thank you!
Erika

Hi there welcome to the forum! :)

I am not a bleeder and hopefully for me it wont. I feel for those who do, I cant imagine your scary feelings. I do have cobblestoning in the Ileum and mine to pose a problem but at bay, just barely for now. Crohns is very hard to diagnose so hopefully you will be lucky and get news right away. Hope it isnt Crohns but it is better to know and treat it with the right meds. You have your hands full with little ones, and I am sure you are not looking after yourself as well as you can, very difficult. Hope you get relief soon! Please let us know what the results are, you are welcomed here anytime! Glad you found us.

I had bleeding in the same spot but thankfully I didn't need a transfusion. I was taken to the ER right away and after a hospital stay of almost 2 months (one month of a liquid diet) and many tests, that's how they found out I had Crohns. I was put on Prednisone and some other drugs that were popular at that time (this was 20 years ago). I haven't had major bleeding like that in a long time. I've seen some people come on here saying that that's what first happened to them before they got their diagnosis as well.

I'm sorry you're going through this but welcome to the forum.

Hi Erika, welcome!! My son had bleeding issues but nothing to that degree! He would also have pain and diarrhea though. I hope they give you firm answers so you can get the treatment you need.

Make sure you write down all the questions that may arise before your next appt. Good luck!!
