How do you get a 2nd Opinion?

Sorry this may seem like a dumb question, but I’m wondering if someone can walk me through the steps of getting a 2nd opinion, and do we stick with a Pediatric GI for my 17 year old son or look into adult GI?

We’re not quite ready for a 2nd opinion, but I want to know how to get one if/when needed. My son sees a Pediatric GI in Omaha, NE. Although we’ve lived here for 15 years, I have no idea how to find a really good GI for a 2nd opinion, and I’m not sure if we should stay with Pediatric or seek an adult.

Thank you!

Pediatric
As long as they are seen before the child turns 18
Most pediatric Gi keep the kids until age 26 .
(Once out of college and into real adult life )

Boston childrens will do a records review online
No need to travel

Mayo Clinic is great for adult ibd but so so for pediatric

to get a second opinion
You just call the Gi department
They will have coordinator who can help
You get all medical records from the current place
And imaging /biopsy slides

chop (childrens of Philadelphia) has a good program
Cincinnati childrens (cchmc) is good
Children’s of Pittsburgh
Stanford childrens
National Jewish Colorado

Wanted to add
Second opinions take months to schedule
They don’t mean your switching docs or even don’t like your current doc
Most Gi welcome the fresh set of eyes to confirm what they are seeing
I know ours did
And Ds got three different second opinions over the years
It was a good thing

I didn’t know that, so this is very helpful! I’m trying to figure out where we can go for a fresh set of eyes. We live in Nebraska. Either I can check with another GI here or the next best option would be to to contact the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.

Thank you!
