Hello Everyone,
my husband is diagnosed with IBD. there is a ulcer in food pipe which did not healed for about 3 yrs since then he is suffering from ulcers in mouth, throat. He is taking Rowasa-500mg but its not helping. We are in very bad phase of life, we consulted many specialist but still there is no solid improvement. doctor has asked us to start steroid which we are very scared of. we don't understand what to do. he is taking ayurvedic treatment but there is nothing we can be sure of. please help. please advice me best treatment, success rate for ayurvedic treatment and success rate of steroid.

thank you.

Hi Janhavi. Did your dr run any tests for IBD? Mouth ulcers are a major symptom but you can only know with endoscopy, colonoscopy etc. If the pills are not helping, you will have to push for the next step with your dr, please talk to him about tests. Wish you the best.

Crohns affects more than the top layer
Rowasa (5-Asa ) is basically a cream and only treats the top layer
Steriods like prednisone will get inflammation under control but can't be used long term
Immunosuppressants like 6-mp and Aza are typically next steps with steriods if 5-Asa fail.

Hello everyone,
he had endoscopy, colonoscopy and capsule endoscopy. there is a ulcer in food pipe which has not cured yet.we don't want to switch to steroid as it has many side effects. we will first go for Rowasa 1gm. Does Ayurveda medicines help?

I can't give much only nutrition, but yes crohns by definition can be inflammation anywhere in the gut.

Alkaline diet, no acid foods, soft foods, cooked foods, no coffee, google up brasco broth, you can make this with alternative recipe, use what you have available, a book called nourishing broth, nourishing traditions, broth is the oldest healing trick on the planet, soups, liquids. Did they (doctors), get down there and try and biopsy or take a photo of it, sometimes we catch bacteria, probably the root of many ills. Avoid inflammatory foods, I assume he has pain associated with this, sorry prayers for healing.

I too had ulcer in my food pipe. Thing is food pipe ulcers are a sign of increased acidity in you GI tract. Usually the ulcer in food pipe (esophageal ulcer) gets healed itself if acidity is brought under control. Diet plays the most important part here. As everthin suggested, have alkaline food and NO acidic food. I have had success with apples.

make some strict lifestyle changes. Do not lie immediately after having food... try taking a walk after dinner, have a lot of water and green vegetables. If you are a non vegetarian then take chicken broth.
whenever he feels acidic ask him to take something like a banana or any sweet fruit that brings the acidity down immediately. But as I can comprehend from your posts that this hasn't healed for 3 years so it could take a little more than just diet changes.
