Ileitis..when its not crohns...does anyone know?

Ok, so maybe Ive been doing too much research.. maybe its just a mothers refusal.. but I've been doing research since my son got sick and I still have a nagging feeling its not crohns. I have found pages of other things that mimic crohns but have more of his symptoms than crohns... like yersinia bacteria or similar. I also found a page where someone was diagnosed with crohns and it ended up being staph aureus enterocolitis.

does anyone know if they test for that when they do stool samples? My sons bloodwork, biopsies showed no signs of crohns... even his ulcerated ileum seemed to look more like one of the others instead of crohns... but yes, I do have an untrained eye. I'm considering asking our family dr instead of the gi to test for some other things like this... but I didn't know if some of you knew what they tested for.

If you do not trust your Gi or the biopsy results then please get a second opinion from a pediatric Gi .
That is the one true way to find out for sure.
We had three opinions over a year . In our case in the end he still has crohn's
But now we are sure and so is our Gi that we trust.

I can say I researched and our Gi was pretty good about doing the extra tests since the other diseases also fit but in the it was all still crohn's.

The other thing is if your gp orders the test they may not be skilled enough to appropriately interpret / treat the results.
So you would still need a second look by a pediatric Gi.

One of the better comprehensive stool tests I know of is the GI Effects test from Metametrix. I do not know how many physicians use this test, but I know mine does not.

My doctors are just not interested in pathogens that may cause symptoms or disease. They treat the symptoms and that is about it.

You can add Mycoplasma to the list of pathogens that can cause Crohn's like symptoms.

I do not know if the GI Effects test checks for that or not, but that is what I tried to get my Gastro to test for. He was not interested.
