• Welcome to Crohn's Forum, a support group for people with all forms of IBD. While this community is not a substitute for doctor's advice and we cannot treat or diagnose, we find being able to communicate with others who have IBD is invaluable as we navigate our struggles and celebrate our successes. We invite you to join us.

Is it me, or am I just weird? Newbie in need of answers.

First of all can I just say how powerful so many of your stories are and how brave you all are. I can imagine (reading a lot of the newbie stories) it must be pretty scary and lonely.

Im Cen (pronounced Sen) I'm female, 30 and I have yet to be specifically diagnosed although my stool tests have come back positive for ibd and I have had high liver function and GGT bloods.

I have history of bladder issues and have suffered from bipolar for the last 14 years, the only reason I mention this is because I take medication for it.

I have always been tiny, a U.K. Size 8, but over the last few months I have started to balloon around my waist, I have severe constipation and cramps, with (I'm so sorry if this is way too gross) rectal bleeding, pus, mucus and all sorts..
I will go maybe 3/5 days without going and over one day may go 3/4 times with usually one massive solid hurtful monster BM (that has blocked several toilets) And lots of smaller BM.

I am constantly exhausted, to the point I can spend my entire weekend asleep, waking only for food and still be exhausted, I am starting to fall asleep doing computer work and so on.. It's starting to affect my work life.

I am now wearing a U.K size 14 due to growth only on my stomach over the past 3 months all my clothes feel tight and uncomfy, I constantly have hot/cold sweats, heartburn, agonising head aches and nausea..

I guess what my question is, is that looking through everyone's story, no one seems to have anything that sounds like mine, I know that everyone is different, but I thought crohns/colitis was all about urgency, diarrhoea, weight loss??

If anyone can help me out, reassure me, or just tell me that I am not alone in this I would really appreciate it.. 15weeks wait for the specialist, so it can't be that bad.. But I thought I'd find comfort in these groups, I just feel even more alone hearing that these are not the symptoms everyone else is having..

Sorry for the moan, thanks for reading

Cen

Welcome,Cen. I am sorry for all you are going through. There is a group in here specifically for people who deal with constipation. Cramps, mucus and rectal bleeding are common for people with IBD. I hope that they can diagnose you soon and get you on the right medicine to get you in remission. You have found a great support group.

Tynemouth,
Hi Cen, and welcome to the forum. I'm not going to be much help to you,I'm afraid. As you rightly said,we're all different. The long wait to see a GI is the norm.unfortunately, and it's not right for me to put my thoughts into your head until you're diagnosed properly. How long since you saw your GP.,have your symptoms worsened since then, have you been prescribed anything for your discomfort ? Please don't let your symptoms get out of hand in the next 3+months.If you don't feel "right" go back to your GP.It will help if you make a list of symptoms, length of time, diet at the time etc. to take to your GI appt.We also have an "Undiagnosed"thread if you haven't already seen it.
Keep us updated and by the way, nothings to gross on here,We're all interested and interesting and your post will be of help to others.Best wishes.

My poor doctor is terrified to prescribe me anything, I have allergic reactions to a lot of medicines and he's said that prescribing me with anything may make it difficult when I do get seen..
I've been keeping a food and symptoms diary, along with stomach measurements (I've been asked when I'm due twice now =\)
Thank you for being so supportive, and I understand your reluctance to add ideas/ thoughts of what it might be, I think I just needed to voice them as it sounded so very different to what everyone else is going through.

I agree with Scottsma. I would be unhappy to wait that long if your stomach is changing that much.

I would at least be going back to see the GP, and see a different GP in the practice if the first one is being ineffective. I don't want to be a scaremonger, but if your body is changing rapidly then I think they should be investigating things a bit sooner.

Please remember that GPs are not psychic, and if you don't go back and let them know what's happening, they can't do anything else to help.

Best of luck.

With the symptoms you describe you should definitely go back to your GP and report exactly as you have on this forum.
Something is not right for you and especially passing blood needs to be reported sooner than later.
You should not be waiting three months for. GI consult.
Feel better soon

Hi guys, just wanted to update you. I took what you said and went back to the GP, one of my cheeks started ballooning and I had a permanent hamster look.. Turns out I had an abscess in my jaw..
Doctors worried that there are other things going on and put in a rush on my appointment.
1400 today, will update you all and thank you so much for your support.
