Is this what haemorrhoids are like???

I always thought I had hemorrhoids... I could feel them hanging down and they'd itch a bit if I irritated them.

Enter Crohns. I've been on prednisone for almost a year now and maybe it's worst because my skin is thinner due the the side effects of the preds.. I don't know.. But I do know that I went swimming with my 7 year old son yesterday and was forced (by him) to repeatedly throw him over my head from the shallow end into the deep end. I felt like I was straining beyond my ability but I didn't want to let him down, so I continued.

A few hours later I couldn't sit, walk, use the toilet- nothing. I'm still like that. It's freaking excruciating pain. I couldn't sleep... It's nuts! I assumed a hemorrhoid and went out to purchase prep h etc... Everything on the shelf in fact. Nothing worked.

I went to a walk in clinic today and the doc said I had a big hemorrhoid and nothing I purchased OTC would work. He proscribed some cortisone cream and I've been using it since noon. Haven't noticed any comfort yet but I guess I should be a little more patient.

My question is this: are hemorrhoids par for the course with Crohns? Are they typically as bad as I've been experiencing? I don't want to go to work tomorrow but I don't really have a choice.

Could this have to do with the fact that I've been on preds so long?

I hate this freakin disease... Just when I thought I was reaching a little normalcy, this happens!

Hi Turftech
This has to be one of the worst situations...you are not alone
It might be a good idea to get in touch with your GI and be checked for the problem.
There are other approaches to treatment ranging from specialists tying the hemoroid and they drop off to surgical removal.
It is my opinion that Walk in clinics are not always the best places to go for problems like this which may have a crohns connection...better to go to urgent care if there is one ,or ER.
Better still get in touch with your GI and get it properly evaluated.
Feel better soon

Hi, so sorry to hear about your struggle.
I can only speak from my experience and yes hemorrhoids are one of thr symptoms i got ... They arent nice especially when they flare.. I tried like you e every single cream on the shelf, till i was prescrip a steroids cream from the doctor.. It didnt help straight away , about 2 weeks till i could experience a diffrents. I still apply the cream when i feel that last bathroom visit may aggrevates it again.. Also hot bath seems to help, and only pure Cotton underwear....and after every bathroom experience , quick shower... Well this is in between flares.. At the moment i am in the middle of a flare, crohns, gastritis, duonditis, possible colitis ( waiting for tests)
I hope this maybe helps you

Peace and hope and strenght x

Hemorrhoids are awful, but make sure you get them checked. I have suffered on and off with them for several years, but back in Dec2014 I thought I had them again, went to the walk-in clinic for a prescription where they misdiagnosed me as having hemorrhoids twice in the same week, before I went to ER and was rushed into surgery for an anal abscess. If it feels worse then any hemorrhoid you've had previously get it checked, it may be an abscess. Best of luck.

Yep, sounds like when I had them. Couldn't sit, or lay on back, and having bowel movement was excruciating. I ended up having surgery for them. That was not fun. But that was 25 years ago, and thankfully, no problems with them sense.
Ice helped some...
Good luck.
