Omg i'm in agony, went to the toilet for a bm and i feel like a elephant is sitting on my stomach! i did eat a meal yesterday coz i was feeling good, but again in pain :(( even sittin on my butt is causing pain in my stomach, having my first ever colonoscopy on monday and i'm terrified! i want to finally get answers but at the same time i dont want anything to be wrong! I have been off work on and off since my gallbladder removal in october and having time of from college too, i did a colour and cut on my cousin and was bent oven in two with pain from my stomach going through to my back, m feel like my whole body has ran a marathon, my thighs are killing me! the only thing keepin me going is my tests next week! why dont pa in killers work??

Hey,

Sorry to hear about the pain! I was in considerable pain last year as well and my docs refused to prescribe any pain medications until they had done a complete exam.

Don't be freaked out about the colonoscopy - it wasn't that bad, let give you lots of meds to calm you down.

Hang in there and good luck!

thanks for the support jenna rae and jasonesque it really means a lot, i feel like i talk to a brick wall sometimes, i was hesitant to join the forum, i only did coz i was desperate for some advice and support from folk that have gone through this, i am surprised at the few replies i have had but want you to know how much i really appreciate the ones who did reply, i suppose most folk on here are looking for help like me, god bless you all who take time out to support this forum x

Yea, colonoscopy is really no big deal. They gave me plenty of drugs and I typically didnt even know where I was, lol. I did feel some pain when they tried to force their way past an obstruction but again, more drugs and I was out. You will be fine.

Hey! As silly as it sounds, your pose and breathing can do quite a bit for pain when meds aren't helping. When I am in a light fetal position, lying on my right side the pain is much more bearable. Also breathing purposefully and deeply made the pain less as well.

Experiment with breathing (meditiation if you want) and see what makes you feel better.

Different amounts of heat and cold on your tummy seems to calm things down as well.

Hope you get your answers soon!

With the colonoscopy the day before is worse than the scope. The colon cleansing is the worst part. The scope itself you probably won't even know what's going on. I've had 3 of them. #4 on Feb 8th. Just hang in there.

The prep is definitely the worst bit but remember to drink lots of water as it can help with not becoming dehydrated. Good luck with our procedure. I had one 10 days ago and it was a breeze and also quite interesting seeing my bowels on the screen.
Take care 😎

well had the colonoscopy and it was normal, which i am pleased about but still no further forwards in getting this pain away, i even done a celiac home testing kit and that was negative too! wish i had a magic want :((

My first colonoscopy was also normal . I finally ended up with a stricture, then a small
bowel series and a diagnosis. Keep being the squeaky wheel until you get the dx and treatment you need!

Hi Franceshop,

I hope you do get answers. that is so very important. For me it is a cycle. today I am glad not to have the intense pain of when I was first diagnsoed. Now I am down to lose stools !!

So frustruating! We've all been there. I was telling my mom I had Crohn's for months, undiagnosed. Doctors wouldn't make a decision, but I knew.
The tests are so frustruating, but try to treat it like no big deal, bring a laptop with movies for your wait, read, keep yourself busy. Only bring a friend if they can handle it, because it's not fun comforting someone else.
My last five day hospital stay I watched a Buffy the Vampire Slayer marathon and I was outta there in no time!

I am so upset this morning, think i must be dehydrated coz im very emotional and just plain dont feel well, really shakey, got up and took a biscuit to see if that stops the shakes, walking down the stairs is a struggle, my legs are killing me! I dont think i can cope with no answers anymore! I really thought having the colonoscopy would give me answers, i was screaming in pain while having it, done! I am the o ly one who thought it was that bad, i mean i have had 4 kids for goodness sake! And 2 were with no pain relief!!! I have NEVER felt this low!

Do you get hormonal before that time of month? That's what it sounds like to me hun! Call a good friend and have some tea. That will cheer you up! Girls together make sunny weather!!:rosette1:Hoping you feel much better soon hun!Have you checked the forum page for similar stories?
PS. Many of us don't get answers right away from tests. Many people on here talk about that. So hang in there.

The colonoscopy sounded like a nightmare, didn't they put you out while it was going on? They did me and I didn't remember a thing or feel anything either. It didn't show anything on my first one either, but a year later the crohn's showed up in Ileum and colon. So, sometimes it may not rear it's ugly head right away. Let's just hope they find it soon or some reasonable answers to what is causing this.

Franceshop I hope you are doing better! Sorry you are having a hard time. It is good nothing showed but stinks you are in pain. Did they not put you out during the procedure? Make sure you are having all your blood work done and watching out for dehydration. Breathing and meditation will really help. Hang in there! Keep us posted how you are doing.

they did put the stuff into sedate me but it bubbled in my arm so i dont believe i was sedated at all! i have terrible trouble with my viens and the canula always makes my skin tissue! hope i never need another colonoscopy again !!!

Frances,

sorry to hear things are so bad right now. Make sure you get something with electrolytes like gatoraid, and of course some nutrition too.

Hopefully you will get some knowledge about what is causing the pain soon.
Remember, you are your only advocate and dont be afraid to push the doctor more. Make sure they know your pain level, keep a journal of all of your symptoms.... it even helps you to see if there is a pattern.

could it be an abscess? If there are problems higher than your colon, the colonoscopy cant show it. Very frustrating!!

keep us informed. thinking of you

i have no idea whats causing it! it is causing pain pretty much straight away after i eat! like the food cant get through maybe! my bowel movements are ribbon like since having the colonoscopy, is that normal! hope to hear back from the surgeon soonto see whats next!

I'm sorry to hear this! I must have good veins. The only timethey had trouble was when they tried connecting an IV port in my hand. They jabbed and jabbed and gave up. They said my skin was too tough!!! What the heck does that mean!!??
I hope you don't need another colonoscopy too hon! Hopefully your veins will improve.

Both of those are signs of a stricture. If the stricture is in the small bowel your colonoscopy would not have found it.Call your surgeon if you haven't heard back.

Doug, Thankyou for your help! +I had no idea! Never had a stricture. Could you explain it? Thanx!! Hope you are doing better!!!

Teresa, strictures happen when the intestine becomes inflamed and closes off. It causes two things. 1. Stool in the shape of ribbons, it gets that shape as it presses through the stricture. 2. It causes food to back up behind it.Causing bloating and vomiting. I had both of these. Strictures are much more likely to happen in the small intestine. The Colon is just wider.

Frances,
How are you doing this evening?
Your situation sounds pretty immediate. You have to go to the E.R. to get the help you need right away.

Hopefully more people who have also dealt with this can let you know their experience and how urgent it may be.

please keep us informed.
thinking of you..

hey, i am still the same only manage to eat a little at a time, i went back to my gp crying and he said he would right back to the surgeon and let them
know the meds they gave are not giving me any relief and that i had the ultrasound and colonoscopy and was verbaly told they were clear and that they should see me again because i am still in a whole lot of pain and getting weaker by the day, i am having bloods done tomorrow to out rule celiac, i asked for the test as i've never been tested! may as well our rule anything that may be a possibility! i expect they will do a mri next! did i say i had a upper endoscopy in oct and it was normal too! i did wonder about a stricture but i dont vomit!

i need to get better for my holiday in 8 weeks, its a long awaited honeymoon, got married 6 years ago and took ill and couldnt go, its tiok us this long to save up to go and i'm poorly again! i know there are worse things than missing a holiday, my poor hubby really deserves a holiday, he is the best husband and a brilliant dad! fingers crossed i get answers soon xx

Hoping for you Hon that you get some answers soon too! It's so frustarting not knowing! Hang in there!

Franceshop I did not vomit a lot. It was a once in a while kind of thing. The bloating and the D were constant.

I see you had the upper endoscopy done also.Kind of leaves the small bowel. It is a good idea to rule out celiac sprue. It looks like your GI is being thorough, which is a good thing. I think an MRI of the small bowel is fantastic. Good luck to you and I hope you feel better for your vacation.

thanks dougute! its good just to know i can vent and get support when i am scared! My bowels are so un predictable i swing from loose to severly constipation, doesnt matter what i eat either! i am gonna start a food diary too, may as well do everything i can to help resolve this mystery! x

That's a great idea! That may help you discover what foods to avoid!
I recently found out onions cause me much grief and I love them!!!

im thinking about going to a&e today, i've just had enough of being in agony! i was awake the whole night last night trying to pass a bowel movement! i eventually did this morning, and have had the intense nipping pain in my righr side and pain in my stomach when i sit down all day, now i have thin long stools again, i'm exhausted! do you think they will just send me home again!!?

Frances,
My first suspicion is that you do have a stricture or you are flaring.
I cant help but think Prednisone or another steroid is needed.

I wish i could tell you exactly what to do. I know you feel helpless and are hurting.
go to the ER. They were able to give our Baylee a steroid that lasted a couple of days through the IV which helped a lot. It was temporary but gave her some relief.

I hope someone gets on this post this morning and can help you more than me.

When is your next appt? Can you call your GI again?
Most people know their own bodies and can tell when something is wrong. Go with your instincts on this. GET HELP!!!

thanks you are so lovely! i'm gonna go when my hubby gets home from work! i will let you know what they say! i dont have my follow up appointment yet, so cant even say ok i'll try and keep going through the pain till the appointment! i'm so sick of crying through the pain! i am gonna losten to my body and go tonight! xxxx
