I knitted three sweaters for my son when he was little and that put me off for life.I'm also rubbish at sewing, even straight forward hems and buttons.I'm just not interested in that sort of thing.I'm a good cleaner and basic cook though.But definately NOT a girlie girl.Well,not even a girl now.:ylol:
 
Sounds just like me, no wonder we get along. Mom could knit and crochet, I still have one sweater left that she made me when I was in college, imagine that! But I never wanted to learn the craft.
 
I knitted my first ever socs two winters back. And so far seems to be last ever since I have not gotten anything finished since them. I keep planning on knitting a second pair.. or some wrist warmers. I like it, but I need to focus on it so much... i'd rather just sit and wach tv to relax instead.

But tell me. I was wondering what would be the corret word to call my man. As in my boyfriend (since we don't live together) but we are adults and boyfriend just seems wrong. Man friend saunds silly to me (and reminds me of Ice age movies). So I call him my man... but thats a bit possessive isnt it? The other way aroud I gues Lady friend would be fine. I cant use significant other or spouce since we dont share a home.
 
other half as opposed to better half, or my fella or my soul mate (if he is) or my future ex if he isn't.

Might take the win as I'll be off soon.
 
My fella.. I like that one. Soul mate is too corny (even if he is it). Thouh I think other half would work well too. Its less formal then significant other. My mom used to use that of her other half bevere they got married.

And I win!
 
For a couple minutes. What is life like in Finland? Have you ever traveled? How would you compare? Just curious.

I can't knit, I crochet just a tiny bit, and I pretend to know how to sew. I cant sew a straight line, but Burtons, zippers, etc, are easy for me. Cooking is another story. That is why way back we adopted Kirsty for our cook. Teresa, you can be our back up.

I love to cook and don't mind simple sewing. But no knitting or crcheting. I took knitting lessons when I was a kid and hated it. Oh well, can't be good at everything,LOL!
Mike will be home for a break soon, so if I disappear for a bit, i'll be back after he leaves. He's spoiled!!!

Took knitting lessons as a kid too, but keep trying and hating it more. Maybe that is why I was depressed?

I have traveled some. I am actually ½ American. My dad and his side of the family live in Wasington state. So I have seen some of the US. Mostly norht west. But I have lived in Finland since I was 5 so this is my home. Other then US I have seen some of other European countries. This summer me and my other half went to Iceland. Im a bit scared to travel to more exotic places since low imune and all that. Also I am not even allowed to take some vaxines required by some really exotic places. And I have to say.. last time I visited the US it totally draind me. The 16 hour travel time was way too hard for me.

I would say Americans are more open and talkative. Finns can be a grumpy bunch of hermits that dont want any interaction from strangers. And especially when it becomes this time of the year it gets really gloomy since we really do not get much sun. Finnish people have no knowlege of small talk. That is actually something that is learnd in school once they start the English lessons. But fins are very honest and true to words.

In the summer the country wakes up and people spend a lot of time outside. Then its back to winter and you see no-one anywhere. We have beutiful nature.. then so do you.

But I love America. Its so much fun to visit there and I have some really good frinds there that I love.. and family ofc too.

Definately a place to see. In winter we have so much snow.. well.. not always. But up to your knee atleast. its fun. But the time before snow falls is really gloomy. Its so dark. The the snow comes and it gives light everywhere.

But it would be hard to see all of Finland in a short time. We are quite a big country in area. It takes 12 (maybe even more) hours to drive from north to south and thats with no stops. But then there is nothing to see that much up north anyways. :D But in population we are only 5 million. So hermit really can describe a Finn very well. ;)
 
Wow, I had no idea it was that large! I can picture you in a white fur hooded coat with boots to match! I love the cooler weather, but not quite freezing out. I know some people that would fit right in over there, the grumpy ones!!!:biggrin: You seem just the opposite though! Very friendly!
I bet you are shy at first meeting though.
 
That sounds fun. I can so do the hermit thing coming off prednisone. My doc said he normally sees symptoms I have in people that have been on it for a year. I should have told him that before my flare I had a mental breakdown so my adrenal glands were stuffed from that then I got the flare.

Robert, my mum loved the present of whitebait its her favourite and so expensive. So she was very happy. IT was funny to wrap it up!!.

To be honest I win - cos I can:thumleft: I am much better at fishing than I am at knitting. At least I can catch a fish - I never finish what I start in knitting.
 
I must admit, I do sometimes see a hat, or sweater and miss that Mom isn't here for me to show it to her and have her make.

Glad your mom loved her fish! Did you cook them for her?
 
I'm just in the kitchen cleaning up now and then hope to do some baking for hubby too. His birthday on Sunday:thumleft: I didnt cook for mum, best she do that herself.

Robert, my glasses were a bit more colourful than that image and my nose is not quite that big! They are orange and black frames, fingers crossed that they get found

I know I will feel the same way. I still have my 95 yr. old Grandma, but don't think she will be here much longer. What a wonderful woman. I' love her so much. Have so many great memories with her. She still puts her make up on everyday and gets her hair colored regularly. She looks so much younger than her years. But she is sleeping a whole lot now. That is a sign. But, my parents are78 and 75. My Mom is more active than I am. My Dad though has arthritis real bad and has really put the damper on him. I pray he is with us a few more yrs. Love them so too. They are way different people than they were when I was young. I didn't like them much back then.:ybiggrin:

I got the win, ta - I have just made morrocan sausage rolls for dinner tonight with an orange, mint and yoghurt dip. I have also made some sundried tomato bread. I even made my own flaky pastry for the rolls. I will do something sweet like a cake etc for him as well.
 
I made --- Doug go get take out again. I drank carrot juice from my juicer earlier today and I can be good only once. I don't know how you ladies do it.

Wow Kirsty, how don't you both weigh 300 lbs??? With all that gourmet high carb food? I barely get to eat carbs and Can't lose anymore weight. It makes me mad! I swear the skinniest people I know, eat the most junk!!!:mad:PS
Not saying you're food is junk! I just think it is high carb and for me, That puts the weight on...But, it sounds fantastic!:thumleft:

How was your day?
I just remembered what you wrote about Ashley having a beau!!! Wow, what a fun situation! I remember when I found out my daughter was PG at 14. I about died. But, she did great as a Mom till she turned about21-22. That's when the bad stuff with her started.:ywow:
No everyone, Ashley is not PG!!! I was just saying it's hard when they start seeing boys! You have to be on guard!
 
With Ashley, we have to be on guard for everything. Even with her girlfriends, just because of the trouble she could get in. Foster agency rules say (specifically for her, not for everyone), that she can never be alone with anyone, unless they are trained by the foster agency as to her situation, or if I approve of the situation. Believe me, we are plenty strict on situations where she is out of our sight. She can't even be home alone without one of us there. She can have privacy in her room, of course, but we won't even let her talk on the phone to boys without us there. She does go on "dates" with her "boyfriend" - entirely chaperoned by Doug and me. We let them kiss, some, but that is it! (we are so mean). Aren't you glad we weren't your parents?

Revenge is sweet, guys. Or stinky. I am at my mom's office--she's a therapist-- and the janitor wouldn't let me use the bathroom because he was cleaning but there were like five bathrooms and I REALLY needed to go. I went to one down the hall and as I was finished he came to clean the smelly place. I feel bad but he like yelled at me for trying to use the bathroom he had just cleaned. Like, isn't that what bathrooms are for?

I never went thru the "not liking each other" phase with Mom as a teen, she was my friend even then, could tell her anything. Dad was very strict, ex Marine, you know the type, so I would get irritated at the rules and curfews, but understood they came from love. Cherish them, Teresa, and give them a hug for me!

Now everyone knows why I talk so much. I'm American! (But a talkative one at that.) I like that Fins are honest and true to their words. We need more of that here (especially in our so-called leaders who should be setting good examples.)

I would love to see your land, even on gloomy days. I think there is something inherently beautiful about our earth, no matter the situation, don't you?

Even though Utah can be so hot in the summer, in the winter we can get snow up to our knees also. Buy I really love the Northwest. It is much cooler, over all, than Utah and I love the tall pines and rocky shoreline. Thanks for sharing.

Just saw it when I was checking the weather. Some young guy from Altoona is holding a manager hostage of an insurance co. Maybe he didn't send his check in time for drugs!!:yfrown:

Thanx for caring about us western PA. folk over here! I haven't even checked again to see if they got him out yet! We are used to crime in the Pittsburgh area. Tons of shootings. Mostly drug realated. SOOO SAD...:stinks:
 
Just checked. The young man surrendered to police and noone was hurt. So thank God for that. I don't know why he did it yet though.
 
Mmmhmm....happens here too. Midwest is alot of farming communities, so farmers have plenty of the chemicals used to make meth. It turns into meth alley.
 
It is, but there are other ingredients, fertilizer compounds and ammonia, etc....knowing all these dangerous chemicals are in it, wth makes people want to put that into their bodies?
 
No wonder they look like freaks out of a horror show after being on it a couple years!!! I just emailed Sandy to see how her neuro appt. went. She should be home soon. How are you healthwise? You don't say much about it. Good I hope. I'm glad we are getting to know one another.:hug:
 
It's decent at the moment, I am keeping a watchful eye. I had a flare a year ago, first one in years. Haven't had a GI since my first one left, the one who diagnosed me in the 80's, he was AWESOME, have tried 2 since, but don't "gel" with them, so will look again. Anywho, just came off my Aza on my own, my symptoms were under control, weight gained back, etc. and the Aza was messing with other things in my body and blood work. GI could have cared less, so I made the executive decision with my hubs, lol! I'm no moron when it comes to Crohn's, but after all these years and meds, I know enough to know all our meds cause other things, and I won't take a med just to be taking it. How's yours?
 
I had a flare for about 6 weeks in June and July. Then I went on the cholestyramine and it got rid of the DIAR. I have pains from it and occasional runs, but I get constipated alot too. No happy medium. I have tremor frome essentail tremor and alot of pain from my back. I had surgery in Dec. 99 and I have disc disease and stenosis and spurs in my neck. My Dad unfortunatelt passed his arthritis down to me. I guess mostly though not too bad. I have good days and bad days.Had kidney cancer too 3 yrs ago and had surgery for that. But, in remission and very happy about that.:)
 
I've been thinking of getting my back checked out, Dad had degenerative disc disease, they would shatter even, he had 3 surgeries, and he had hand tremors too, which I find myself getting in the last few years, so......lovely. No Crohns in the family other than me, but my 2 older brothers had issues, the oldest had an ulcerated colon at 21, and the next oldest had a spastic colon all his life that I remember. All 3 of us are my mom's children, the younger 2 are my dad's with his ex wife. So if it is genetic, it's somewhere in Mom's genes', lol!
 
I've been winning for awhile now. I told everyone Team Utah would win. I also win because I had a good doc appointment (I've got doc phobia :p)

Welcome, DPearl. You choose to post your first post in a great forum thread, where we get along with sarcasm and fun, and sometimes call ourselves "the looney bin." There are a lot of other great informational and fun threads out there too, but personally, I think this is one of the greatest. It can help someone whose body is not always feeling good have a little laugh, which is good for both body and soul. I hope you stay around, and get out of it what we do.
