Leaky Gut ??

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has heard of this ?

I have recently been seeing a gentleman who specialises in alternative medicine. He think i may have leaky gut syndrome.

I dont really know anything about it.

My GP diagnosed my crohns with Biopsy's from a colonoscopy, Bloods, MRI scan and also a barium meal. Could he have been wrong ?

Sorry just feeling a little confused.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jo

This doesn't mean the crohns diagnosis is wrong. Leaky gut is a term that alternative medicine uses to define the fact that your bowl is more permeable than it should be. Toxins and other nasty stuff found in faeces may be leaking from the gut along with the stuff you want to absorb from the faeces. This could easily be caused by the crohns and I would think you having a 'leaky gut' would only back up the crohns diagnosis.

Hi Deaton,
Thanks for your reply , i was just really confused , I seen the guy last Friday and he phoned me today saying he had some information on leaky gut syndrome and he wanted to see me again. He then said something like he had a hunch that i may have this and not crohns? Was just so confused as ive had so many tests over the last couple of years , just didnt know how all that could be wrong, He also said he's going to do some sort of test next time i see he to see if it is that , but the test isnt 100% accurate , I'm now worring that there something else wrong with me now :(

Hi,
Well some no hold merit to this what so ever.
We also were told by our MD/ND that he was thinking this for Grace.
But he said that once the damage has taking place you have IBD, NO CURE for it.
We still try to treat Grace naturally BUT we NEVER go with out GP visits, GI visits and we do use regular medicine for Grace also.
I do have some info on this. PM if your interested.

I agree with Deaton, leaky gut is part and parcel of certain types of crohn's. When you read about it a lot of the symptoms are similar to crohn's symptoms. Given the tests you've had particularly the biopsies. i doubt you have been given a wrong diagnosis. It will be interesting to see what he suggests and if any of it is helpful. The gastro's tend to focus on the gut whereas alternative medicine looks at the whole body. I've yet to find any alternative medicine helpful but other people have so I'm always open to learning about new stuff. Keep us posted.

Hi , Thanks for the reply's.
I have had so many tests by my GI,Surgeon and Blood specialist and got my diagnosis a while back and it was just a bit worrying to be told that he thought they were wrong, especially when at the moment im feeling good and my meds seem to be working well. Only really went to see him as i feel a bit tired and thought it may help with my energy. He's booked me in on Monday to see him again so will see what he says. Thanks everyone :)
