Life with a rectal stump...

My husband had a sub-total colectomy with end ileostomy twelve months ago. He has a rectal stump that produces a lot of discharge. This can sometimes be a little bloody and he has Pentasa suppositories for this. Does anyone else use Pentasa suppositories and have they noticed that the colour of the discharge becomes dark purple/black while using them? Also, what is 'normal' discharge?

Any responses will be appreciated.
