Looking for a little help!!!

I have been dealing with multiple abscessess and fistulas for years. My GI finally referred me to a GI that is more specialized in Crohn's. I have seen her and have had a CT, MRI and colonoscopy just done today. They have seen three fistulas and there is anal stenosis. I guess it's no wonder I feel like I have such a hard time having a BM and it comes out as diarrhea. So, just wondering if anyone has had treatment for anal stenosis?? I am going to be referred to a colo-rectal surgeon but I am not sure what to expect. From the reading I have been doing, there are some options I am not sure what will be recommended for my particular case. Feeling very frustrated since I told my other GI months ago that when I tried to have a BM it felt like there was something blocking the stool to come out and his response was to drink prune juice. Maybe I am just not persistent enough in my care. I have this idea in my head that if I can continue to function daily and work and do what needs to be done at home that I am ok. I have a feeling that my lack of persistence has caused things to get out of control. I would love to hear any feedback that anyone has. I am currently on Imuran and Cimzia for my Crohn's along with some supplements.

This is the first time I've heard the term anal stenosis before so had to look it up. Seems if it were mild then they'd try treating it with stool softeners or more fiber but that doesn't sound like the case here as you already have diarrhea. So far what I read is that it is treatable but may more than likely require some sort of procedure/surgery.

I really wish your GI had listened to you and done some tests instead of brushing you off. Try not to blame yourself as we all tend to put our lives and general well being into the hands of our supposed "specialists." Many of us have to learn the hard way on who's actually good or not. Now that you know that you lack persistence, you can learn from that and become a better advocate for yourself in the future.

Sorry I don't have much information to give but I hope you get the treatment you need soon so you can start feeling better. Keep us posted on what the surgeon has to say. :)

Anal dilation is common treatment for anal stenosis secondary to surgery for things like hemorrhoids, but in your case with fistulas, I don't know if dilation is recommended or not.

Hi,
I have a pretty bad rectal stricture and fistulas. The CR surgeon has done the dilation three timed now. It has not seemed to make much of a difference. He said that he can not do it too many times because it can damage the tissue in there.
