Hello everyone
So I’m due to have a loop ileostomy done on April 25th, I’m a little apprehensive about having surgery. This will be my first surgery due to the crohn’s, which I feel lucky that is hasn’t had to happen sooner. I was diagnosed on March 5th 2002 and for the most part haven’t suffered horribly with the disease until these last 2 years. I’ve been on every medication possible to help control it.
Anyway getting somewhat off topic. Was hoping for some info or personal stories to help with knowing what to expect with any aspect of the surgery and life afterwards. I’ve read other experiences and most are positive and prefer having a bag which has improved their quality of life.
The doctors first wanted to remove everything but the small bowel which isn’t affected by the crohn’s but then saw a specialist in NY which offered the temporary surgery to see if giving the colon a rest with the combination of the stelara would improve it. Also have a rectovaginal fistula and other fistulas that have been getting worse and they think this is the best way to help heal them.
It seems that my options of getting this under control are running out and this is just one step before they take it all out.
Thanks for listening
