Choline is an essential nutrient that far too many of us are deficient in. And those on Methotrexate may have an increased requirement as well. From the Linus Pauling Institute:
Something to consider discussing with your doctor or dietician, especially if your liver function tests ever come back a little off.Methotrexate, a medication used in the treatment of cancer, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis, inhibits the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase and therefore limits the availability of methyl groups donated from folate derivatives. Rats given methotrexate have shown evidence of diminished nutritional status of choline, including fatty liver, which can be reversed by choline supplementation. Thus, individuals taking methotrexate may have an increased choline requirement.
