mouth pain red and swelling and sort of itchy too.

Inside of my mouth hurts as does my tongue and there is a bit of swelling on roof of mouth. I also itches. This has been going on for about 3 weeks. At first I thought it was thrush, but there are no white spots. I have never had cronhs is my mouth before. VERY annoying!!! What is this?? And why? I take plenty of vitamins. I think it is weird! :runaway:

I realize you take plenty of vitamins but I'm not a fan of multivitamins for Crohnies and according to our vitamin and mineral deficiencies thread, this could be due to a deficiency in iron, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, and/or vitamin B12.

I see you're on iron, so I assume it's not that. Have you had your B12 levels checked lately? If they're fine, a quality B complex might be worth trying. Note that the folate you're taking can mask symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency and according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, taking one kind of B vitamin and not the others can cause imbalances in the other B vitamins.

And of course, there's also the possibility of some sort of infection or other causative factor.

Sorry you're having trouble, that must be terrible :(

Thanks David, I have a suspicion that it could be the cymbalta. This makes me very sad, cause aside from this, it has been a huge help for me. It did start at about the same time that I stated cymbalta, and it has been many years since I have had this sort of thing caused by a vitamin deficiency. I was hopping that if it was a side effect of cymbalta that it would go away, but it is not going away. I will call my gp tomorrow. Seems like if it's not one thing.... It's another!!

I have a doctors appointment this morning, and I will get to the bottom of this!

Try a non drowsy antihistamine (like the ones that hay fever sufferers use) I had tried everything including vitamins and Still had the the sore mouth itchy tongue and throat... Took the antihistamine on advice from my renal specialist who suggested it may be a food allergy ... and i have had no problem with it since!!

If course if it works... You may want to be tested to find out WHAT u r allergic to... Also... BEFORE u try the antihistamine... Be sure to talk to the pharmacist about what meds u r on and any medical conditions you have to make sure you get an antihistamine that won't react with any of your current meds or flare any conditions have....

I hope it works as well for u as it has for me!!!

I went to the doctor and he took a lot of blood. He said no need to stop the cymbalta yet. He said something about waiting to get blood results before he prescribes steroids. I said STEROIDS??? Oh no!! And I go back friday.

Ok after all this time. This is what happened. I was put on a Methylprednisolone dose pack. It helped, but as soon as I finished them the problem came back. The doctor finally conceded that is must be the cymbalta. So I am tapering off the cymbalta and my mouth is beginning to feel better as I lower the dose. The cymbalta has been replace w/ Lyrica. and I am truly disgusted w/ the amount of meds I am on. But healthwise. I feel pretty good :)
