I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in December 2008. I told my doc I was having severe stomach pain, fevers, and really bad butt pain. so he x-rayed me and said I had a lot of stool stuck in my intestines so he gave me some stool softeners and sent me home. He told me I just had some constipation. (thats causing fevers??)
I went to him at least twice after that complaining about the same things but he just sent me home saying the same thing. I went to the ER when the pain started getting unbearable. I had a cat scan and was told I had a large rectal abscess. I was admitted into the hospital and went into surgery the next day to have it drained. It didn't take long for them to suspect IBD (thank god) and they started me on Asacol. My fevers were still very high after getting antibiotics and the abscess was still very bad. I went into surgery and got an ostomy in late December, that I kept for six months.
My abcess has come back in the same place two other times (once in April and once in August) since then with the same symptoms. Antibiotics have helped better since I was diagnosed and I have been taking Remicade since Jan.

Thats my story....Not very good with the "describing my experiences" and all, SORRY!!

Wow Popcorn, that sounds like a rough ride!
Would you be able to describe your butt pain? I have been having similar symptoms, minus the fever, my butt hurts right around my tail bone. I can't sit, even when i lay on my side i feel it aching.....I have had someone suggest an abcess, just wondering what your experience was. :)

Hello and welcome to the Forum!!

You've come to the right place for information
or just to vent...

Good to have you here!!

:welcome: My fellow popcorn fiend;)

Make sure you check out the Remicade club thread. How are you feeling with Remicade? Any improvement? I am glad you found the forum. I hope you stick around for a while.

I also have a bunch of butt pain. Its like my lower back and then tees right down the middle of my butt. It then likes to wrap around to the front of my right side and then just dig in. Kinda feels like it wants to split me in half. Hurts a lot.

Tamesis, my suggestion to you is lay more on your back/ butt. It seems to help me.

The butt pain: well when my abscess exploded (as in tore open and let out pus)
and I had a bowel movement it burned like crazy. and I couldn't sit down and if i tried I wouldn't even really be sitting. I was like, Holding myself up with my elbows. Laying down: Aching and burning and throbbing but not as bad as a bowel movement. And when I'm not doing anything...like you know when you need to pee and there is no bathrooms around you so you "suck it in" well...when I'm perfectly (well not at all perfectly) fine, I suck it in and allllllll the pain comes back. :(

I'm doing okay with it. It gets used up waaaay too fast, though. My GI won't let me take it any more often then every 4 weeks...
He wants me to start CIMZIA cuz it lasts longer, but I think remicades only problem is that it doesn't last.

Welcome! I love your Avatar - Orangs are my favourites :)

Sounds like a rough road you have had. I feel bad for complaining about mine!

I hope you find some good support/info here - it's a great bunch of people :)

Welcome IWP.

Actually yes it can, but my Crohns gives me low grade fevers a lot of the time. Very annoying as they make me tired and give me chills sometimes. This is more than likely the cause of your fevers.

Welcome and we look forward to getting to know you.
