Mystery diagnosis

After a history of IBS diagnosis, I had further inconclusive tests done a couple of years back, but late last year I was referred again to get further investigations after several recurring bouts of bloody diarrhea with abdominal pains (and throat infections occurring in tandem).
So had tests done in January and have today after a mad chase around finally got all my results back and basically not much further forward.

C Scope - internal hemorrhoids, then normal to terminal ileum which showed slight nodulation and a possible small polyp removed.
9 other biopsies, mostly normal but some slightly abnormal but not indicative of Cancer, Crohn's or UC.
MIR - showed no signs of inflammation in small or large bowel.

So they've pretty much ruled out Cancer, Crohn's and UC. There is indication that something is happening in there, but they don't really know what.
The bleeding they think is likely due to the internal hemorrhoids.
The GP has no idea what the nodulation is and is relying on further information from the specialist in time. As it is not indicative of IBD or Cancer, the specialist doesn't want to see me back until May.
The GP has requested blood tests to again check for Coeliac Disease (which previous tests apparently ruled out).

I have only bled once since the C Scope in January, but have had several flare ups of diarrhea, mainly passing almost liquid stools, accompanied with sulphuric taste in mouth (which is a new development).
Diarrhea bouts have increased in recent months.
I am on Amitryptiline, Omaprozole, and Buscopan for cramping.

Flaring a bit at the moment, and got GP to check my throat whilst there and again some inflammation there.

So bit of a mystery what is going on down there.
Has anybody else had or know of similar cases which have proven:shifty: difficult to diagnose? :shifty-t:

I have one of those atypical cases where they know some of the things wrong - detailed in my signature below - but all they can tell me now is that there is a problem in the functionality of the digestive system (really you think??). A lot of it is ruling out this or that or whatever they come up with. I'm just now seeing a new GI at UTSW - a teaching hospital so I'm hoping they have more knowledge and experience with unusual things that are difficult to diagnose.

Good luck to you!! :ghug:

Apac, after going undiagnosed for 15 years and having been under the care of a gastroenterologist all along, I switched insurance, and therefore, had to switch doctors, praise God, cuz otherwise I would still be suffering without the proper care. When I switched, the first thing the new doc said is that most of the blood tests they do for Crohn's are just about worthless and because every colonoscopy I had showed aphthous ulcers, it was time to do a swallow endoscopy. You swallow a small, capsule sized camera which takes thousands of images in an 8 hour period. The results were absolutely incontrovertible. Definite terminal ileum Crohn's. Miserable but glad we finally know before I get cancer and croak. Can you ask for this test? I think you've suffered long enough already! (Of course the suffering still goes on after diagnosis but at least you can get properly treated.)

Thanks Ali, Princess and Araceli. I've got a couple of month before I see the specialist again. So will see what he has to say then. I've had another blood test to test for Celiac's, I've had a few of those done before and tested negative for it, so I doubt it will be that.
But we'll see, hope you are both keeping well and your guts are giving you some relief.
