Need help

I am looking for support and anyone who has had similar symptoms as I have been experiencing. It all started a little over a year ago. One day I suddenly had a bad case of diarrhea after eating lunch one afternoon. It continued the rest of the night as I also started to feel like I was getting a cold. I had the chills, a fever, and began to feel weak and nauseous. Naturally, I just thought that I had caught a bug and hoped the symptoms would soon be gone. The next day the vomiting started. After I had ate lunch that day I could not keep it down. I felt fine for a few days when I woke up one morning feeling really sick again. After vomiting not stop for about 30 mins, I had to go to the bathroom. I then passed the most painful bowel movement. I felt like I was going to pass out on the toilet. It was the first time I had gone in a few days and it was a dark black color. For a few months the symptoms would continue on and off. I lost about 10-15 lbs. in the first 3 weeks. I had a cramping pain in the upper part of my stomach just below where the rib cage splits. It was sensitive to the touch and I had trouble laying on my stomach. I finally saw a GI specialist. He said my blood work came back normal except I was slightly high I believe he said my red blood cells, not quite sure, just know he said blood cells. It did not seem to concern him as He did not clarify what this could mean. I eventually had an endoscopy done with the results coming out normal. He eventually just put me on acid reflux medicine and a something that helps me digest my food quicker as he described it. My symptoms begin in October of 2010 and began to start to feel back to normal around March-April 2011. I have gained the weight back and a little extra since then. I have been symptom free since.

I'm sorry that I have written so much. I have read other threads and feel that you guys are very supported. I just don't want to go through what I went through before. I have not taken any medication for the last few months and feel there is no closure yet.

Thanks,

JV

Hello- First I want to say that it's not good to stop any medicine without the consult of a physican. Also it was probably white cell count that is elevated which usually means your body is fighting something, red cell when it comes to diseases is usually decreased due to blood loss.

There are numerous diseases and conditions of the digestive track as well as diseases and conditions of the surrounding organs which mimic the symptoms of crohns so unfortunatly the symptoms you mention don't help very much. Also it can be difficult to diagnose crohns disease as it appears in patches and has a cobblestonned appearance. You may have several biopsies taken and they all come back negetive due to how the disease presents. You also may have what is considered crohns colitis where crohns shows up in the colon and visually(and often symptoms) come across as UC.

You can ask for a colonoscopy and/or a serology 7 blood test but the only way to really confirm or even make a diagnosis is through a crohns positive biopsy. Some go through many many tests and go through many years before reaching a diagnosis and even then at some point it can come into question.

Good luck and continue to take that medicine ;)
