Nervous about GI appointment today

Nervous about GI appointment today *update OP

Going on 20 months in this flare. Failed Cimzia, imuran, apriso, entocort, lialda and now remicade. I'm much better than before Remicade, but I'm still having issues. My GI has already said he has nothing else for me. I think he's going to send me to a Crohn's specialist at Vanderbilt. Which my insurance may or may not cover. They're kinda picky, since I work for a hospital corporation and Vandy isn't one of our hospitals. I think I want a scope to make SURE it's the Crohn's before he sends me away. My last one was 10 months ago (then 10 months before that). What are the chances it could be something else?

Current symptoms: diarrhea 5 times/day, pain off and on, nausea every few days, night sweats. No bleeding at all.

Update: GI said I'm on every med (or a version of each type of med) and there's nothing else he can do. He said to try 2 immodium each morning and 3gm VSL#3 daily. He also refilled my oxycodone. I go back in 3 months and if no better, then he'll consult Vandy. He did bloodwork to check my white count due to excessive night sweats, and ESR and CRP. He said to call my PCP and discuss my hip issues with him and also get a bone scan. After 9 years of Crohn's, I need to be checking my bone density. I asked about a scope and he said there's no point-he'll find Crohn's and nothing will change. If Vandy needs a new scope, he'll be happy to do it for me, but for now, we're holding off.

I know that you've said that you had C-diff in the past, could it maybe be that again?

Have they ever talked to you about trying Tysabri? It apparently had put my crohn's into remission! And its really not as scary is it seems to be.

You know I've been having trouble, and they say I'm in remission, so I think it could be something else, but maybe that's just because I'm frustrated b/c I know something else is wrong with me!! I hope that you get some good answers today at the doc.

I think that it would be worth a shot to ask about the Tysabri!

I may have mistyped-I have NOT ever had c-diff. I'm scared to death of Tysabri. My GI won't prescribe it, either, but I'm sure the team at Vandy would. I have not tried metho, either. That's about it.

With Tysabri, they now have a blood test that you can get done to see if you would be susceptible to getting the brain infection. If you come back positive for it, they won't even try to put you on it anymore. That took a lot of fear out of it for me!
