I have just stumbled onto this forum, and have decided that this looks like a really good place for information and support.

My partner was diagnosed Crohns disease in 2005, he is now 22. He has had an ileostomy (October 2006, 19 years old) and a proctectemy (July 2007). His doctors say that his is the worst case of Crohns that they have seen.

He seems to be dealing with it ok, but I know that he was depressed for a while and he has ongoing pain (not on any medications currently). I hope that I can use this forum for useful information on diet/medication and to read stories from older members. I really want to know all that I can about Crohns, although my partner knows a lot already.

Welcome fellow Kiwi! This is a GREAT place for info and support. I hope you get lots of answers here :)

hi & welcome to the forum :)

i just wondered why your partner isn't on any meds at the moment... if he's still having pain then i'd assume the Crohn's is still active/flaring... shouldn't he be on something? or is it post-op pain?

the depression is textbook normal with Crohn's, and anything which causes ongoing pain pulls us down anyway.. maybe he could talk to his gp about some kind of support or counselling, or even antidepressant meds just for a short while?

please let us know if there's anything specific you're wanting to know.. everyone here is very supportive, and between us all have a wealth of experience of living with Crohn's - we'll do our best to help :)

Hey there :) welcome. Another Kiwi over here :p. I think chrons not only affects the person that has the disease but the people around them. And the hardest thing is trying to figure out how to help them or understand what they are going through. I think you have come to the right place, theres lots of awesome people on this forum that can offer you all sorts of advice on any related questions you have.
