dx with crohns @ 52yoa with frist colonoscopy(2005). was told I was VERY sick. my colon was inflamed,ulcerated..looked terrible. I was having occasional sharpe shooting pain in my lower abdomen, infrequent loose stools, no bleeding. 3 yrs later had 2nd colonoscopy....it was the same or worse....symtoms were the same or less. GI doctor was very confussed. i have always smoked marijuana and had started boswella. the doctor had me on messalamine and started steroids, and 25mg Imuran. june 2010, i called complaining of sever pain in rectal area...was told to use hemrroid meds(sat), Monday morning i called to say still in pain with large amount of puss in pjs. i was told to go immediately to hosp er. So it started, 10 cm perirectal absess. i continued to see surg, abscess did not heal. GI doc increased azathioprine (Imuran) to 100mg. 2011 surg refered me to specialist....he would not operate till i was better(1-2011). i was on cipro and flaygel, it seemed all the time, having bloody watery stools and pain. this surg also suggested another GI doc....blood work showed Imuran 100mg was doing nothing for me. not therapeutic or damaging. started 100mg allpurnol with 25mg Imuran, bloodwork showed this combo worked for me, Imuran was at therapeutic level and no damage to liver. got seton #1 12-2011, #2 1-2012, #3 with drain 2-2012. fistulas just would not heal, kept getting worse, started Humira. 5-2012 another surg, removed 1 ring and drained fistula, again. still not healing, still on antibiotics, occasional steroids, pain meds. d/c Humira, started remicade (8-2012). i was seeing the surg every 1-2 wks, so very tired, weak, had been unable to work on reg basis since absess. then started getting better, by 2013 was no longer going to see surg. colonoscopy (2-2013) was my first to ever look normal. so now it is 7-2013, i still have 2 seton rings, they have stared to drain again, mostly stool, ocaasional puss and are painful at times. i am starting to feel tired all the time, have some nausea, loose stools. i am afraid the medications are no longer working as well. know i need t call GI and let him know about change in my condition/

Hi nhenson, A big welcome to the forum and I'm so glad you found us. I'm sorry to hear you've being having such an awful time. I was diagnosed at 51 - a shock to the system after years of good health.
Have you had a look at the Fistula and Abscesses subforum? There are many other members over there who have perianal abscesses and are able to empathise and advise. I did have an abscess and fistula, but they were internal.
I hope you'll get to see your GI soon and let us know what happens.
