Hi all,

I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease Sept. 8/2006. After my colonoscopy the doctor was unavailable to answer my questions so I was hoping that some of you may be able to help. The official diagnosis was Crohn's Colitis, can anyone tell me exactly what that means? Are the symptoms, including the severity, going to be the same during all my flare-ups? I sure would appreciate any information or advice any of you can provide. Thanks!

Hey CanadaCurt... Welcome to the forum... As for your particular diagnosis, there isn't a definitive answer... only you and your doctor can judge how severe it will be. Think you'll find that the majority of people on here are very positive about the outlook regarding IBD... The best advice I can offer is to do a follow-up visit with your doctor... you & he/she will need to discuss the nature of your type of Crohns, where it is currently situated, what your immediate & long term treatment will consist of. A diagnosis of Crohns is a life changing one, but not a life ending one. Positive attitude, constructive approach, finding a treatment plan & lifestyle that suits your particular case; all of these variables makes every case different.
Take a proactive stance... see your GI again ASAP, confer with your GP concerning possible other GI specialists for 2nd opinions, and commence the treatment these physicians suggest as your best course of action. Joining this site is something I'd personally commend. It's a great group with lots of wisdom and support to offer.

Aloha and welcome. I'm also new here. Can't answer your questions because my condition is different, but there are lots of friendly & helpful folks hanging around. This is a good place to turn for answers and support!

Crohns Colitis is when you have crohns only in your colon and rectum. The severity can vary from person to person and flare to flare. you may never really have a bad flare, or your might go YEARS betwen flares, or you might go only weeks.

I started off having Crohns colitis, eventually had my colon removed because I flared so frequently and severly but kept my rectum for boy reasons....there are nerves that can affect OTHER THINGS if you know what I mean. My crohns did end up moving to my small bowel this past january, after 3 and a half years of crohns colitis, It turned into just Crohns.

Thanks, Skinsfan....did your Crohn's start off mild or did you have severe symptoms? Apparently its only my descending colon...not sure if that matters.

Hi Curt, Ive the same thing.. crohns colitis. mines only in my rectum and is under 2 inches in size, its never spread that Im aware of and Ive had it for well over 12 years now. mine did get to "severe" and I was about to have surgery to remove my entire colon (which never made any sense to me at all considering its in such a small spot.. has to do with muscles in the area I think) anyways.. meds finally did help me.. took a very long time, but they did eventually kick in. so hang in there, and after talking to your DR hopefully you will know a bit more about your situation, and what road you both feel you need to take to improve things.
good luck.
