Newbie looking for answers/advice/opinions

Hello everyone,

Im new here and just looking for your advice and thoughts really.

This is a brief outline of my story:

Tummy trouble started when i was 17-18 years old, i was getting pains and bowel problems. After a number of tests i was told IBS.
This carried on until the past 6 months things have got alot worse, i am now 27 years old, the pain is there all the time and sharp on the right hand side (thought my appendix had burst), bloody/mucus diharrea, completely exusted all the time, weight lose, cant eat or drink anything without feeling pain and feeling the need to run to the loo. I have recently been back to the doctors and have had bloods taken and have been referred to the gastrologist to hopefully get answers to my years of pain etc.
My family history is my mum has had crohns for 35 years so it is in my family.
The doctor and my mum is convinced it is crohns disease, but i am just looking for your opinions.

Thanks in advance and hope to hear your advice/opinions soon :)

Hello,

I'm really sorry that you're having this trouble I know it's not much fun and having it for such a long time, my heart goes out to you. I'm not a Dr and this is just my thoughts so please don't take this as gospel, your symptoms sound similar to mine before I was diagnosed with Crohns last December although I didn't have diarrhea, I was diagnosed quite quickly cos I had to go to casualty and ended up in hospital for 2 weeks, I think myself quite fortunate abut that in a way lol.

It might be worth trying a low residue diet for a bit to see if it helps, it will give your insides a bit of a rest. Might be useful to have a look at the diet and fitness sub-forum, lots of info that may help.

I do hope you don't have Crohns and that it is something that will go away, good luck with the appointment when you get, please keep in touch and let us know how you get on, take care and welcome to the forum.

I just think the blood fits with Crohn's more than IBS, that's for sure. It seems like IBS is the diagnosis that gets thrown around when they can't figure out what the problem is. Hopefully the gastro will you into some testing and figure out the problem and start the right meds for you. In the meantime try looking into the elimination diet, it has really helped me a lot!

Hello There,

Any time there is bleeding from the GI tract, even if obscure, the diagnosis of IBS is no longer compatible. Bleeding is indicative of some type of inflammatory process. Your symptoms, in my opinion, are suggestive of Crohn's of the terminal ileum... Pain on right side, referred pain near or around the appendix, weight loss, and urgency to have a bowel movement after eating or drinking. You definitely have a constellation of symptoms that could fit the bill for any number of conditions, but my bet is Crohn's or Crohn's/Colitis. I hope your visit with the GI specialist sheds light to your situation.

Best of luck and please stay in touch.
