Newly diagnosed and lost.

I am 32 years old and up until the spring of this year have never had any issues. I went in the ER with what I assumed to be appendicitis and was informed that I had inflammation in my GI track that was causing the pain. I followed up with a GI specialist and through a series of test was confirmed I had Crohn's. I have been taking entocort and have been symptom free all summer. Had a MRI last week and DR says he wants to put me on humira now cause inflation is still there. I am uneasy cause of the "side effects". What does the inflammation hurt if it isn't causing pain or discomfort?? Literally symbol free no pain normal bathroom habits. Thanks for the replays.

Hi and welcome.

Asymptomatic Crohn's can cause very serious problems. It gives us a false sense of security while inflammation is causing damage to the intestine.

Sending you my support.

Thanks for the replys. I have a appointment next week to change meds and discuss what the future will hold. I'm optimistic that all will be fine. Just feel like life as I know it has been turned on its head. I'm greatful for this forum and look forward to being able to help others in my position in the years to come.

Hi, welcome hope you get things sorted at your appointment..sending luck and best wishes for the future.. Keep calm and keep smiling (one of my many mottos lol) :)

Welcome!

I would go with your doctor on starting humira. If you have tried the mesalamine based drugs (entocort apriso asacol etc) and they did not help your inflammation then immunosuppressants and biologics (humira, remicade) are the next step. Ask about Imuran too. It helped me for a long time but unfortunate have to add remicade to the list which is a cousin of Humira. I just started remicade which has most of the same side effects of humirA so if you have any questions I can try to answer them. So far it seems to help with minimal side effects only occurring during my infusion. Best of luck and don't hesitate to ask any questions! Also don't be afraid of a second opinion if you are newly diagnosed and u are unsure of starting any medications.

I too feel life has been turned on its head, and whilst I am twice your age sbmdodge, I can really empathise with how you're feeling 😐
It's a lot to get your head round in a short space of time but I would definitely listen to the advice from your doctors, and from the knowledge and experience here on the forum.
Best wishes to you in all this.

I also have a silent IBD (only diarrhea, without pain or blood). At first, the doctors diagnosed as microscopic colitis (lymphocytic colitis). After, they left me without diagnosis (they said it was a functional disease) and today I am medcation free. But two weeks ago I discovered the test of calprotectin and the result was more than 1800. So I went back to the GI and next Tuesday I will be on a new colonoscopy. I'm afraid of what may have happened with my gut because I was a long time without any meds. I'll tell you the result later. Wish me luck. And best of luck for all of you!

what he said :)
I didn't have a lot of symptoms before my bowel perforation
and then in the last years... 2 surgeries because of strictures.
However I was asymptomatic until the bowel is too damaged... then I'm losing weight badly and a surgery is needed.

Now after 3 surgeries, I find it less and less easy to live with the disease.

So, don't trust the fact that you are feeling alright if the exams show something else, Good luck !! :)
