Newly diagnosed

Hi I'm Matt. I'm 29 years old and was diagnosed with Crohn's a couple of months ago. My flare ups, which have been occurring for nearly a year if I remember right, are becoming more frequent and severe. The last major one lasted several days and I spent one of those days in urgent care on an IV drip to ease the pain. Was prescribed steroids after this event but decided to hold off until the specialist could prescribe me immunosuppressants. I now have that prescription (azathioprine) and I took my first pill tonight with food. The goal is to get me on the TNF inhibitors eventually. Anyway, yeah, just saying hi. Currently studying molecular biology and genetics, actually writing my thesis now, and am finding it very difficult to plan around the flare ups.

Hi Matt and welcome.

I'm in Burlington. My doctor is at McMaster.
Are you studying at McMaster?

Welcome aboard. I hope you get into remission soon.

Yeah it is. They're helpful people. Mac's actually known for digestive disease research, which I'm sure you know, so it was luck that I came to this school I guess.

Welcome DoubleHelix,
Sorry your dealing with the stress of this and your thesis at the same time. Oddly, I went through the same thing. Sounds like you've got a good GI and are getting started on treatment that should help. Wishng you well, keep us posted on how things are going. Just fyi: after 20 years of crohns and one resection, i finally made drastic changes in my diet and that really made a big difference for me.
