Newly diagnosed

I was just diagnosed after months of flaring. The gastro specialist started me on Mesalamine and Prednisone 40 mg for the next two months. I am getting an MRI of small bowel and seeing him again in early January. He wants me to research and decide which long term medication i want. He has suggested Humira, Remicade, along with either Iumran or Methotrexate.

What are peoples experiences with these medications and have you done both a tablet and the humira/remicade combo?

Also when did you find you could tolerate more than a low residue diet. I have lost about 40 pounds prior to starting prednisone and mesalmine. I still have pain in intestines and anything but chicken, rice, yogurt , plain soups, make it worse so i am getting pretty bored of eating the same food for so long.

Oh, hi and my name is Kelly, 52 yo, mother of 3 grown kids, high stress career in health care administration.

Welcome Kelly

Honestly,I would ask my GI what he/she thinks I should be on and why.We ultimately have the final decision whether we take something or not,but only after our options have been explained to us.

How are you affected by crohn's? ie stricturing, fistulas, etc.I always encourage learning as much as you can about how you are personally affected by this disease. It helps to form a plan of action.Use your doctors/nurses as a resource and ask questions.

I am still in the middle of scans etc to know the extent of Crohns. I don't have any fistulas but there is narrowing and a lot of inflammation and ulcers throughout my large colon right up to the juncture of my small colon. I have to wait until next month to get the MRI and meet with him to discuss. I am doing a lot of research on this disease and the treatment for it so i make the best choice in consultation with my doctors.
The side effects are a daunting and what my specialist wanted me to research so that i can make an informed decision with him in the New Year.

I have head of that Qu Biologics trail and they are running on in Canada but i am not eligible.
