Newspaper article

There's an article in today's Sunday Express reporting a big surge in cases of Crohns In Scotland and how there is a statistical increase in more northern latitudes and they are starting a new study lasting 3 years run by Edinburgh university

50,000 new people diagnosed in the UK in the last 12-24 months...
Crohn's is out of control even from a medical point of view in Western society.

The funny thing about the study is that it will be a waste of time completely as there is no sense to be found by looking at where people are when it is about the things we ingest.

I used to live on the Central Belt, how do ;)

The Express is a bit of a new cure paper but this study after having a look at 3000 healthy people without crohns and trying to see why it develops,is it lack of daylight affecting vitamins, hormones and diet?it's worth a pop.the more the merrier.

There is already far more credible studies that have been carried out for the whys, whats, etc including but not limited to...

Genetic DNA specific markers found in specific people who either have Crohn's (all of those checked) or are at risk of the disease due to having the genetic marker.

So much scientific work has been done already up to now (and continues to be done) to aim to identify the actual infection and so far it points to the infection not being just 1 thing but likely a few different types (possibly 2 or 3). This can be seen in the work done on studying Johne's disease in cattle and paraTB being spread through consumption of milk and other diary products derived from infected cattle.

2% of this organism survives in the milk we drink and if you factor in those people with a genetic predisposition to be at risk, it is easy to see the link between actual proven data instead of looking at the longshot links such as lack of daylight etc (I mention this as it is madness for them to even consider it to be amount of daylight as there are enough people with the condition in areas of the U.S. and also mainland europe whereby the location offers great amounts of sunlight.

To be studying things like that is totally clutching at straws and they should put the time and money for the studies into the continuation of solid, sound, logically reasoned studies based on already gained understanding from previous studies which have already granted us usable, credible more accurate results.

This reminds me of the 'work' done by the Crohn's and Colitis UK Charity here in the UK and what they use donated money for, which is wasting it on studies that are pointless and ignore all previous work done on the condition which has already given us a better understanding and insight into the condition.

Future studies should be formulated building on previous successful studies that have added to our knowledge of the condition. But instead studies go off on a tangent and head further away from the root causes of the condition.

Madness

There might be something worthy out of left field!and if nothing else it would confirm it's not related I would think any research is welcome and you got to remember this is from a newspaper article so who knows how accurate the reporter is noticed in the daily mail yesterday they had a 2 page article about ibd.
Pure research is very rarely a waste of time and resources, what if they discover something else not related to ibd?
