Nexium/Esomeprazole

What are the side effects? I know it is linked to dementia but is that just long term?

I have a box I was prescribed a couple of months ago but didn't take because I wanted to see if the other drug I was prescribed (rifaximin) worked (which it did).

Now I'm overseas and my symptoms are returning. Do I just run this course of 30 20mg tablets which says to take 2 tablets daily. So I'll take them for 15 days then will cease this treatment. I was on somac for years (crappy gastroenterologist and me being a child/teenager and not knowing better to question) but now I am hesitant to take any ant-acid due to the potential side effects.
