Hi,
I'm 19, diagnosed with Crohn's about 6 years ago, had one major flare up until now, this is my second. So I was put on 4 Lialda per day, and 3 Entocort, and am now down to 2 entocort (was on 3 entocort for a week, probably will be on 2 for two weeks). I am feeling much better- couldn't keep anything down for about two weeks, and now I can keep everything down. But is it normal that I'm still having pain? It's not as bad as it was a few weeks ago, but it's still uncomfortable. Seeing my GI in a few days.

What helps with pain?

Hi Lilwrite, welcome to the forum. I'm also on Entocort, I was on 9 mg (3 pills) for 6 weeks and I've just tapered down to 6 mg this week. It's surprising to me that your doctor only put you on 9 mg for one week - it usually takes a couple of weeks for it to even kick in fully! I would definitely ask your doctor why he is tapering you down so quickly, that doesn't sound right to me, and it would probably explain why you're still in pain. Good luck, I hope you get some answers and some relief from your pain!

Hi lilwrite
and welcome

Where is your Crohn's located? Has your doc mentioned Pred as opposed to Entocort?
entocort works by passing thro the stomach and is released into the end of the small intestine and the start of the large intestine, it only works in that area.
So if your inflammation is somewhere else, Prednisolone may work better. Entocort didn't work for me neither, my inflamm was healed with Pred.
For pain, don't take any NSAIDS, paracetamol may be the best option.
Someone else will come along with answers, good luck
lotsa luv

Thanks for such fast responses!
As of my last colonoscopy, in March, it was only in my small intestine. I'll have to ask him about that. I took prednisone the first time, but I'm just not a fan. I gained such a significant amount of weight, and it just wasn't pleasant, so I'm trying to avoid it if possible. Honestly, since Crohn's has never really been so high maintenance for me, I'm hoping that this is just a little hiccup.. Already feeling better, just want the pain to go away too.

I've been on 9mg Ento for over a month now with no change in my condition. Cant believe he lowered your dosage so quickly, thats very odd.

Maybe just up your own dosage to 9mg for a few more days and see if that doesn't help you. It cant do any harm.

Glad you have seen an improvement so quickly though. Maybe a few more days on 9mg is all you need.

Good luck love.

Like everyone else said, you should be on Entocort for a few weeks to see any difference. I tried to come off Entocort too early and I was still suffering with pain and other symptoms. Also, if I wasnt religious about taking my pills, I would feel it!
