You know THAT question, what is your pain on a scale of 1 to 10? The impossible question to answer because you've been in pain and have just learned to deal with it. I have gone undiagnosed for....I would say 10 years. I was DX with IBS, but only DX with crohn's in July while I was in the hospital. Now, I am playing the insurance "denied as not medically necessary" game. In the meantime, I am in constant pain, a 10 tonight. I tried to do a few of my favorite activites today, cycling and running and am now in hell. They just slap me on pain killers that I rarely take unless the pain is bad enough to go to the hospital. To sum this up, I am in so much pain I can't handle it. I am so sick of being in pain. I want my life back. I know many people have worse problems and I try to remember that. Tonight I am giving myself permission to have a pity party. :(

Hi Laura
Sorry to hear you are in so much pain, where do you get it when i gets really bad. I know my worst one is just at the top of my belly, the other pains I can deal with but when that one comes on boy it just isn't nice is it!!! Maybe if you describe where it is others might have remedies to help. The only thing i can tolerate myself is panadol

Sometimes you just have to give yourself permission to have that "pity party" in order to keep moving forward. Otherwise it weighs you down in all that you do. Hang in there!

Aw Laura!im so sorry you're in such pain!pain can make the brightest day look pretty gray.. I'm amazed that you could do all that and admire your ability to try and push through. And yes, sometimes the pity party is just what you have to do!it may not take the pain away but it somehow gives validation to what you're going through..
Pain and constant diarrhea are by far the worst of my symptoms with crohns.it limits me in huge ways..I miss put on much of life and planned events.and can I say I hate that wuesrin'what is your pain level 1-10?? ' little is usually done anyways by health professionals. So why ask the question? Because its required by the governing board of hospital accreditation people.
So..I'm not sure I can offer any sage advice on how to lower pain. At the worst levels nothing else will do but pain meds.if its lower for me I try hot baths, diversions like hobbies or even tv just not to think about it.
I just want you to know you aren't alone. I've had several resections and feel they have ruined not only the way my fit works but the nerves in and around my gut with them. I've tried all sorts of alternative treatments..acupuncture,etc. changed diets until my head is spinning. But others may have had positive results from them. It's always worth a go..

Do you have a GI? Have they prescribed anything to treat your Crohn's? Are both being denied by the insurance?

If you still don't have a GI or a treatment plan yet then you may need to see your GP and have them write you another referral and keep doing that until you are seen by someone. Eventually insurance companies will give in. Even having more than one doctor write a referral will help. Once you get proper treatment your pain should go away and you'll be on your way to remission. Pain pills, heating pads and hot baths only go so far. If you need to go to the ER, then please don't hesitate. For all we know that really bad pain could be because there's something really bad happening inside that needs urgent care.

Take care of yourself and keep us posted. :)

Thanks , I'm have a difinative DX of Crohns in my small intestine ilium. It showed up on my CT and then colonoscopy. The insurance is a joke. They said they don't have my CT. Just annoying . I'm on pain meds and meds for IBS that dumb me down. I have a firm DX from 3 Heath care providers. Aetna .... I'm going up address them. Just trying. To hang in there and not lose faith in humanity .

I hate crohn's ! I'm newly diagnosed and I trying to deal. I couldn't even go to the store today without having to use the Lou. How is a person expected to function like this. I can't even dance or cycle without having issues. This is F'd!

Don't have the CT? Well maybe you could pick up a copy and walk on over and shove it down their throats. >:p Send them a million copies so they quit losing it.

Yeah I've had to use the bathroom more than enough times in places I'd really prefer not to. I've mostly gotten used to it since I pretty much grew up with this disease but I still deal with bathroom anxiety, especially when there's only one stall (I went to a bar that only had one bathroom and there was a line of women, hard to go with people pounding on the door and you can't simply pinch off diarrhea). I take Lomotil as needed now though. Didn't have it back then. :p

I'm in constant pain from ankylosing spondilitis type of arthritis from crohns and the pain is exruciating messes with my skeep and everything also have the stomach aches everynow and then but my gut pains are nothing compared to the rest of my body I have decided to use painkillers and if they kill me so be it better than living in this crazy pain.

yep constant muscle pain all over which is not as bad as stomach pain from crohn's on the 1 - 10 scale but so much harder to deal with cos its so damned constant! So Laura i sympathise with you. Crohn's is horrible to deal with and the insurance companies should be shot for making it so much more difficult for you. Try lomotil to help with diarrhoea then at least you can still dance and cycle and do the stuff you enjoy. And its ok to have a pity party too.
