Possible bowel resection or ileostomy coming up

Hi,had to go and see Gastro consultant yesterday,he is arranging a meeting again with the surgical team for me,as I am now only able to eat chicken, fish, egg noodles and home made yoghurt now,I am constantly located after eating,he said my colonoscopy I had a few weeks ago, large bowel normal, ileostomy so tight could not get the camera in at all and this concerned him,I said I did not feel good this week,it is causing me problems now ,so he has arranged surgical appointment,I am quite concerned about a small thing that keeps bothering me,one Surgeon a few years ago said to me after a routine hernia op (due to crohns op)no one would touch me again with a barge pole, the reason I have had2 Bowel Resections, and I strictureplasty on my bowels previous over a span of 30 years,I have also had two C sections, when I had my children, also Gall bladder op,all open surgery and the hernia op ,they stuck a mesh in,I am really worried now, with having to have further surgery,is this going to cause serious problems,
Is there anyone on here who has had a lot of ops like this, and still not had any serious problems during surgery.
I am getting quite jittery about it,The last surgeon I seen said he possibly will have his work cut out.But they make it sound as though no one has ever encountered tis many surgeries.Or his it the fact they like to make themselves
Look top Dog at attempting it. I don't know, any one on here able to Help me out with this please,as anyone had this many ops and been ok.

Thanks

Trish

I think although you've had several surgeries, you are hardly a record breaker. They should'nt be trying to scare you like that for heaven's sake! It sounds like they are worried about scar tissue. But isn't like they havent seen it all before. If the surgeon's haven't, I suggest you see a different surgeon who is very experienced, and a specialist colorectal surgeon only.

I hope that things get sorted out for you!
:ghug:

Thanks for that, they always tend to give you what could go wrong over here, before they give you the good points most of the time, the last op I had,I was so terrified after they lectured me that I could have heart failure etc i nearly never went through with it.

Yes, you COULD have heart failure, you could also get hit by a train, or a falling Santa Claus for that matter.

If it's your day, it's your day.

I actually had my soon to be EX GI tell me they didnt want to reverse me because..get this..."I could get sick again" No SHIT SHERLOCK...it's Crohn's FFS! :ybatty:

Life can be risky, doesn't mean we shouldn't stop trying to LIVE it! If you need some advice pre stoma, in case they give you one, have a look at this subforum: http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46

Hanks you have made me feel loads better,it's great to have uplifting comments,I,m sure I will be ok,they just worry you a it when they say its the best thing to do to go forward, and the frighten the hell outof you when they tell you all the negatives, but if I am not going to wake up,----I won't have to worry !!!!!!!!!!

18 ops so far & the only serious thing was a bleed during surgery which they sorted straight away & also wounds not healing well but that is to be expected when you are run down for any length of time.
Please try not to worry too much although I know thats easier said than done as I seem to get more worked up the more ops I have had which everyone find really odd.
Just focus on how your life will improve with the surgery. Thats what I did last time.

Wow that's some surgery!!Was that all for crohns if you don't mind me asking,or was t for other reasons,I have had other ops for Gall bladder etc and Ceasarean sections but only 3 ops for crohns,I know it will improve on howi, mfeeling now,it's no joke having scar tissue in the TI and everything getting stacked up behind,so feel now is the time it has to be sorted out yet again. No Crohns from what I can gather just fibrous scar tissue causing the problem.
You have made me feel so much better,Happy new year to you.
By the way I am in the West Midlands UK

5 bladder ops, a hysterectomy endometriosis removal by keyhole surgery 4 times,3 lumpectomy with some lymph gland removal, a right hemicolectomy, gall bladder removal, cyst removal & various other bits & bats to correct some other issues over the years. I think sometimes they worry about having lots of surgery because of adhesions but if you have already had lots of surgery then its likely you already have them. When I had my bowel surgery they freed some of the adhesions anyway so all good.

That's good ,am so pleased you feel better now, yeah my last crohns op was 12 years ago,and they said it took more time to unstick everything than the actual procedure took, but the pain when I woke up was unreal,I am pretty good regarding pain, but I felt as though some body had put a burning hot steak thru my insides,it was that bad, apparantley my husband said they had been having a job trying to stabilise my pain,so hope this time 12 years on things have improved and to better,I cannot have epidural, none of it works for me.i feel so much better about things now,it's great coming on here cos people like yourself always make people like myself feel tons better. Thank you x
