Recommendation for Leading Crohn's Specialist?

Hi everyone,

After struggling to control my CD for the past 3 years and having been through most conventional treatment options (Asacol, Azathioprine, 6-MP, Remicade, Humira, Methotrexate, Lialda), my local GI doc is recommending I visit a Crohn's specialist. He has recommended a few names below. Does anyone have any experience with these docs, or do you recommend anyone else? I'm looking for a leading doctor that might have advice based on new research and/or can approach my condition from a different angle. The standard approaches haven't worked and I can't take Prednisone for ever. Many thanks! Dan

Dr. Bret Lashner - Cleveland Clinic
Dr. Jean-Paul Achkar - Cleveland Clinic
Dr. Stephen Hanauer - University of Chicago
Dr. Thomas Ullman - Mount Sinai

:welcome: Dan, glad you came here, there are a few that could be in your area, and they will see this and come on. Hope you get some answers, I am Pred and currently seeking a specialist too, my current one is headed for retirement. WE have a Mount Sinai in Toronto, and have been there, it may be back to there again.

Good luck in your search!

hey there.....i got to mt sinai in nyc. the GI i see is Dr. Asher Kornbluth and hes great. like he hasnt been able to fix me or anything but it is not for lack of trying, he is so knowledgeable....and just about every reccommendation from him for OTHER specialists have been spot on. he has some kickass connections.

i have heard of Dr. Hanauer as well....have actually considered seeing him myself. my aunt has crohns (we are not blood related though ironically enough), and he is her doctor. have also heard his name mentioned soooooo many times, he really seems to be up there in the top.

good luck!

I stongly recommend Dr. Ullman at Mt. Sinai. He is very knowledgeable and suprisingly accessible considering that he is the head of the department. He is personable and has responded very well any time that I have had to reach him for advice/concerns.
