Red "fibres" when wiping

Just been diagnosed with a peri-anal fistula, although no abscess, but I do have daily yellowish mucus discharge.
When I wipe, I am mildly alarmed to sometimes find on the toilet paper (hard to describe but I'll do my best), what seems like small, red, moist, sticky, fibres.
Has anyone encountered this before? What is it?
