A few weeks ago, a couple days before my infusion, my back started hurting. Not bad, but uncomfortable. I have a history of back pain, so I figured it would pass in a few days like normal. I had my infusion 6/22. It was my 5th infusion, but we doubled the dose. This was my first at the double dose.
The next day, I woke up in excruciating back pain. Couldn't walk. I gave it a couple days, then ended up in the ER on Monday (6/25). They did an MRI and I have two herniated/torn discs in my lower back. They referred me to an orthopedist. Ortho said there was also some degeneration of the discs. He recommended an epidural steroid injection, but due to insurance, I haven't been able to get one yet. I'm finally back at work after 2 weeks of being completely bed-ridden, but I'm in a lot of pain and using a cane to walk. I'm taking percocet 2-3x/day. I've also had 4 chiropractic adjustments (no help). I'm using heat/ice/TENS regularly. It HAS improved, but not near as quickly as normal and it's much more severe than normal.
Could this be related to the Remicade in ANY way? I figured not, but the timing was terribly coincidental. I have a regular appt with my GI next Friday (7/13). Should I call him before then? Would he even care? It's not intestinal, so maybe he'd just tell me to see an ortho? My mom thought I should call him. I'm seeing another chiro tomorrow that does spinal decompression, and another ortho on Wednesday that I'm hoping is more compatible with my insurance (the other doc was covered, but the facility where he did the injections was NOT covered). I feel like I'm running (limping) in too many different directions in desperation for some relief.
As for the Crohn's, the infusion helped for a couple weeks, but I've been having some issues again since Friday (3 days). Just a little more frequency and pain, but nothing intolerable. Nothing I would call the GI about on its own.
