I seen my doctor today. Doing the exam he noticed some spots on my face that he is concerned about and has scheduled me to see dermatologist about. He said there was warning or something he read about skin lesions with the use of anti-tnf meds. Have any of you heard of this or have any of these type of problems occur after being on these meds. I never had any type of skin problems before starting these type of meds, but then again that was 10 years ago. I know I'm getting older also and it may be age also.

I never had a lesion per say but I have gotten skin infections and abscesses. I never had an issue with this until I was diagnosed with Crohns and put on Remicade and then Humira. I was told the abscesses are most likely from a small cut or hair follicle becoming infected and then my body not being able to fight off the infection. I also get frequent sinus infections.

I haven't had lesions, but I get boils quite frequently, which my doc said is from the Humira, as it causes your immune system to decrease, therefore increase the chance that boils can occur. I've also broke out into a horrific rash when coming off prednisone and actually had steriod syndrome. Are you just on the Humira?

The lesions are a concern to my GI because he said he read a warning about skin cancer. I've had some of those boil type things in the past. They were almost like a real bad pimple type thing. They even did a biopsy of one and it came back as a staph infection and they clear up with Bactroban Ointment. The lesions my doctor is worried about are 2 types. One is raised crusted looking and the other is just a spot which is rosy around the edge. He asked if it itched and I told him thinking about it, it has from time to time. That when he decided it was time for me to see the dermatologist. I did read on the Humira site a skin cancer warning. I see the dermatologist on the 8th. so hopefully I'll know more then. I sure don't want to have to deal with skin cancer also. I'm also on Asacol, Itraconazole and prevacid.

Yes, actually, I think it is people with Crohns who are susceptible to Squamous cell cancer, but Humira inhibits TNF factor - tumor necrosis factor - that's our bodies' natural defence against cancerous growth, so they watch those skin spots carefully. Mostly it's people with "sunspots" - actinic keratosis.

Went to see the dermatologist yesterday and came home with stitches in my arm, yuck! The lesions my GI was worried about wasn't of any concern to the dermatologist, but she did find other areas that concerned her. She froze 7 spots on my face that she said were precancerous. She said those were just from years of sun exposure. There were 2 wart looking grows on my arm that really concerned her because of my history of Histoplasmosis. She thinks these may be histo again so she biopsied both of them hence the stitches in my arm. What is strange to me these things looked different then the histo on my skin last year. She said this type of growth could be encapsulated histo and with me back on Humira we need to know even though I'm on the Itraconazole. I'm hoping it isn't histo again, because the Humira seems to finally be starting to work and I would hate have to stop it.

My doc's specialty nurse just advised me that now they are recommending that all Crohns patients see a derm. at least once a year because of skin-Crohns related conditions. They are learning more all the time.

Got the results from my biopsies and it wasn't Histoplasmosis this time!! Yea me!! I can keep going on the Humira!

Have had two Squamous Cell Carcinomas removed, one on the corner of my mouth & the other on the bridge of my Nose. I also have solar Keratosis which I treat with Efudix cream.
I smother my face with sun block whenever out in the sun.

I have been on Humira for about 6 months, and have a Squamous cell cancer on side of my nose, I am having it removed in a couple of weeks.

I had the same lesions and concerns. The dermatologist said it was eczema. She prescribed a cream and they went away.

Good Luck

Not sure this helps, but:
I have been on infliximab/remicade for about 1.5yrs and have in the last 2-3 months experienced itchy rashes all over my body. My dermatologist told me it was urticaria, but i experimented with different diets and found i am possibly allergic to wheat/gluten. Stopped eating foods with wheat/gluten and rashes disappeared more or less.

Problem is that I just love cookies and bakeries and gluten free bakeries are simply non existent in the UK :( but will be good for my health no doubt :)
