Soy protein may benefit treatment of inflammatory bowel disease

Researchers say that consuming soy protein may lessen the severity of inflammatory bowel disease.

The severe diarrhea, pain, fatigue and weight loss which is generally associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) can be very debilitating and may lead to complications which are life-threatening reports Mayo Clinic. IBD primarily consists of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Natural remedies to help in the treatment of this serious condition are always welcomed.

It has been determined by researchers that certain vitamins and supplements and resveratrol can be of benefit in the treatment of IBD. It has been reported by Penn State researchers that consuming soy protein may also decrease the severity of IBD. This study was done on mice and cultured human colon cells.
