Start Methotrexate tomorrow

Here goes then, going to be injections. Heard a lot about it, read up about it. As things go I willing to give it a real go.

That is a first for having Folic acid after? Wondering what their reasons are? My Gi said prior too but do what they tell you. Metho didnt work for me tried on two separate occassions... ugh :yfaint:

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Grant

Good luck dude; I also take folic acid on Wednesday's and I jab on Fridays. I have taken Pen's advice as well and I have a nice box of ginger and apple tea. My nausea is more psychosymatic about the injection, totally silly but hey I get through it. These days I have no other side effects so that is good, and I am finding that I am getting more engery now that when I started. My crohns has been in remission since July 2010 so that is good. Stay in touch

Well I've done my 1st shot. Must admit the sight of a bare needle as opposed to an enclosed one did me make me think twice. Anyhow I did it!! No strange feelings as yet, still have what hair I have left(which isn't much). Here's hoping this is the answer.
Keep well & best wishes

Good luck Grant. I take methotrexate, and folic acid daily. I still have incredible nausea and ulcers in my mouth since starting the methotrexate, as well as crushing exhaustion. My Crohn's is improving, but otherwise, I hate it. I also take humira, which I've been on since October, but until starting the methtrexate, my Crohn's wasn't improving and was actually getting worse.

Well done Grant :dance:I know what you are saying about the sight of the needle, in my mmind I try to play it down so that I do not dwell on it and look forward to my reward for doing it.

Have a good week.

Tks Aura. Feel slightly nauseous & my head feels a bit strange. A bit like when your on a strong dose of Anti Biotics. Have had some ginger biscuits & paracetamol. So far so good.
Best Wishes

Hope I can get used to it because I feel groggy as well. Still its doing good I guess so I mustn't moan too much.

Hello,

I'm brand new, just joined this place. I'm in midst of finding out about my colon. I have the exact same symphtons as someone on here by the name bypeep. Waiting on second diagnosis.

I have to tell you people about Methotrexate. Back in 1988 I had a deadly cancer, however, only grace by God is how I am here.

Methotrexate and Prednisone were part of my chemo which made me have Avascular Necrosis in my left hip. Yes, both were at fault. I've had 3 hip surgeries due to those drugs. Woke up paralyzed after the total hip replacement in 1998. Which made me have a tendon transplant on my foot just to be able to walk without a brace.

When I read you all were taking Methotrexate, it bothered me due to I know the harm it does. I seriously know I will not ever take Methotrexate. Prednisone possibly on low dosage for a short time, as it did other numerous effects to my body already back in 1988 which I am also suffering from.

Please take heed, and please becareful with those drugs. Doctors DO NOT tell all.

Blessings to all.

Sherry

Hi Sherry. I'm sorry about all your problems with your hip. One thing to know is the dosage for Crohn's disease of methotrexate is much lower than the dose used for cancer.

Even so, for me, I had to stop taking it due to side effects.

I hope you can find a good treatment plan that works for you.

Hi Linda, Thanks. Yes, I knew the dosage was different, however, I also knew it's still a horrific drug to take. Thanks.

Quick update, felt terrible yesterday especially 1st thing. Horrible headache & full of nausea & very wobbly legs. After some paracetamol & ginger biscuits it gradually eased & I was able to eat properly. Today I feel much better & have taken my folic acid. One of the side effects I'm getting though is bad diarrhea which is making my hemorrhoids bleed badly again-kind of defeats the object. Hope it settles down a tad.

Hi ya Grant,
Sorry to hear about the side effects, I hope that they get better quickly for you. Tahe care

Thankyou Iseibert & Aura, feeling better today. No blood for a change-great. Taken some more folic acid so no more nausea until the next jab.
Keep well

last weeks jab went swimmingly, virtually no nausea or grogginess. But yesterdays one has left me feeling sick, groggy & off food. I can really face it ATM. I thought I'd cracked it after last weeks....

Grant, sometimes I do not think there is a reason why some days a better than others. I guess it depends on everything that is going on - so far I cant figure a pattern, only that if I do not take my folic acid I am worse. I do have some antinausea tablets to take as well for my bad days - do you have some? Keep the ginger on hand as well - a good excuse for gingernuts ( a yummy bikkie we have here)

Tks Aura, took my folic acid today but still feel terrible & its upsetting my gut. I use the ginger nut biscuits as well, they are a godsend. BUt I'd hoped somehow that two days after the jab I'd feel better than this.
Keep well
Grant

Well that was short lived, no more methotrexate for me. Literally just come off the phone talking to my specialist. Basically a lower dose wont help with the nausea & dizziness etc. thats been affecting me 4 days out of 7 post injection.
Next!!

That's a shame. I didn't get on well with MTX either, it made me feel like a zombie all the time and knocked me out completely for two days. The final straw was getting a form of methotrexate pneumonitis.

Did he/you mention upping the Humira?

Hi Beth, no not @ this stage because I'm facing more surgery. But I'll want assurances that being the case that I can go on Humira about 6 weeks after the op to stop the disease developing like it has done in the past.
Tks & Rgds
