Stay away from dairy?

Hi
I'm new on here but briefly to explain myself...i was diagnosed with Crohns a year ago and despite trying 3 different treatments after being on steroids for a while, I reacted to each one. My consultant/nurse specialist suggested another treatment of different tablets but to be honest, i'd rather take a break from it all. I occasionally have a flare up but thankfully nothing too serious asi've also changed my diet a lot since being diagnosed I.e. less chillies, no red meat, much less greasy food etc. However, i'm still feeling regularly bloated and I'm getting a lot of acne on my face which is something i've never had before, probably because everything I ate never stayed in my body long enough! I'm thinking that dairy products could be causing both issues, and just wondered if anyone else has experienced the acne issue? I do eat alot of dairy such as cereal almost every day, yoghurt drinks almost every day, cheese occasionally...

I got acne during my flare but it could have been from my medication (prednisone). Dairy contains histamines and a lot of people with Crohn's disease are sensitive to foods with histamines (catfish, diary, etc). Try eliminating it. You can switch to almond milk ,just make sure what ever dairy alternative you get it doesn't have carrageenan (link to crohns disease). I found my almond milk , next to the milk. The ultra pasteurized stuff usually has caregeenan. I actually find that dairy doesn't bother me but i don't consume it every day. Greasy food and soda is the only thing that bothers me. Good luck

Thanks for your replies :) I bought Soya milk today so going to give that a shot, and cut out dairy completely...well as much as I can! Will definitely try out the almond milk though if soya is.no good. Is that quite sweet though? I generally don't drink or eat many sweet things, and so bought the unsweetened soya milk.

Lactosse intolerance can cause those issues...perhaps acidopholis milk? Almond milk? I am reading up on Dr. Ivan Bogdanov studies and intereseting reading on probiotics and how food affects our bodies and cause diseases....Good luck!

Dairy is not really anything bad for me. I drink about 3 glasses of milk a day and eat a lot of string cheese. I'm sure its different from person to person.

You can buy unsweetened/sweetened/vanilla unsweetened, etc. Depends on the brand. I buy a store brand that's sweetened just a little 60 calories/1 cup with 6 grams of sugar i think. But its the best tasting I've had. I also buy almond milk over others because it doesn't have the risks of soy milk (90% of soy is gmo in the us) besides the hormones issues.

I stay away from lactose, but am fine with aged dairy (hard cheese).
I also wouldn't go near soy, particularly GM.

I'd suggest an elimination diet and reintroduce foods one at a time to see what they do

I find it alot easier to stop looking for substitutes and go without.

I stay away from dairy completely as cow's milk is as its name is for cows if you think about its like me calling you up and saying come round for a glass of breast milk from my wife.

Look at cow's there fat and docile and that is what is milk is for, for the calf to fatten it up and support its immune system not a humans thats why alot of people have issues digesting dairy we are the only mammals to consume milk after infancy and its not even from our own species how crazy is that since giving up dairy I feel heaps better, lighter and more energy

Thanks again for the replies :)
Ozboz you made me chuckle, i think i'd be paralytic from shock if i had an invitation to drink your wife's breast milk!!
Well it's only been 3 days since i gave up dairy and i already feel lighter with less acne on my face. Bit too soon to tell i know, but hoping this is a sign. Bought almond milk today and have to say, i do like it better than the unsweetened soy milk. Haven't completely cut out dairy i.e. i had a blueberry muffin yesterday - the smell in Starbucks was overwhelming so i gave in :( ....I also decided to take a food intolerance test so should get the results in a few days. Spoke to a few people to who have done this and had mixed responses as to the reliability but thought i'd give it a shot anyway.

Since eliminating dairy from my diet (as well as several other things), my adult acne has completely disappeared. I second the opinion to avoid soy-- soy milk is highly processed and almost always from genetically engineered soy beans. You really need to try an elimination diet, such as SCD or GAPS, and figure out if you are sensitive to dairy. Good luck!

I was diagnosed with mild to moderate Crohns 7 years ago after a classic episode, to put it mildly. I havent been on any of the steroids usually given. Instead I have changed my diet excluding wheat and dairy and increased Vitamin D, both in pill form and taking some sun. No further episodes since then. I have no idea if this works for most people with the disease but it's certainly worth trying.

hmm we are the only animal capable of getting another animals milk regularly. I do not think either of my dogs are capable of milking another animal. Both dogs and Cats I know lavish milk if given it. Predator animals have been seen lapping there kills milk up.

I am not against or for milk I drink it now and then. I also agree many people struggle with milk. But the we are the only animal that drinks another animals milk is thrown out there way to much.

Eliminate possible problem foods and slowly add stuff back. It's possible milk cause's you issues and other products like cheese are fine. Food is a long process of touch and go to you figure out your safe foods.
