Stool test results

Had to complete a stool sample test last week. Got the results back today that it showed no signs of infection but positive for inflammation. What does this mean and what is likely next steps?

Already have a colonoscopy and endoscopy scheduled for October.

Still new to all of this and don’t have any family or friends in a similar situation to ask questions.

I presume the inflammation test was fecal calprotctin, right? If so what was the actual number?

Inflammation in the gut can be caused by several things: celiac disease, NSAID drugs, some infections, etc. But perhaps the most common thing docs test for is IBD - usually either Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.

So a positive fecal calprotectin is not definitive, but it suggests you might have IBD. The colonoscopy and endoscopy in October will be the key tests in getting a good diagnosis. You are much better off when the doc can get a good look and actually see what is going on down there instead of just testing and guessing.
