Had surgery 4 days ago. 18inches of my terminal ileum removed and 6 inches of my large intestine removed. This is horrible! The pain is awful the ng tube had to go back in because I was vomiting. Trying to walk chew gum anything to get my bowels to wake up but nothing. Any other suggestions?

Take it one day at a time. I had to go through the same things, NG tube for the longest time, parts of small and large intestine removed, colostomy bag, no food or water for weeks etc. etc. It's really hard getting through it, but just take it one day at a time. Sooner or later you will be back to your old self, as hard as it may be to see, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Walk as much as you can and take breaks when you need to. I've been there and I know how hard it is. Just keep doing as your doctors order you to do and as hard as it is, try not to stress out too much. I wish you the best of luck!

I'm sorry, that does suck. I know, for me, I was 90% better the day that stupid NG tube came out. I'm so sorry yours had to go back in. Not fun. Hopefully it'll be out and you can move up to tolerating liquids and it should all get better from there. I just had my resection Monday so I know what you're going through.

Also, I was told that pain meds slow the bowel recovery process so I tried to lay off them as much as possible. Don't torture yourself though. Good luck!

I know it's hard to be patient with it. Just take things one day at a time, and try to enjoy your day. Try not to think about it too much and rest as much as you can to regain your strength. You will get there.

Not doing so hot. Have been home for a week now was feeling good but not my red blood cells are low and I have tissue protruding out of incision. Heading to the hospital where I had the surgery done. They don't want to transfuse me because they say I'm young (31) and I don't have heart problems but I know it would make me feel so much better. Hemoglobin 7 hematocrit 22.

Feel for you.

Just been thorugh the same thing. Had a horrible time in hospital waiting for my bowels to wake up.

Horrible pain, vomitting everywhere, NG tube is the WORST THING EVER!!! I had it in for 3 days.

I promise it does get better, just try to relax as much as possible.

I am doing ok. Still struggling with the anemia. It has been a tough recovery. For some reason I though it would be a breeze (never had surgery before). I know in the long run I will feel better, its just getting to that point is tough. Thank you for your concern.

Hang in there Kubby. Recovery from surgery takes quite awhile - which is tough if you're keen to get well and impatient to get life back underway.
I was vomiting for about a week after my surgery - sick as a dog - it was horrible, I thought it would never end. Even spewed up my NG tube. And two weeks after surgery I would still lose my breakfast most days.
Hope you're feeling better soon.
