Go to meet with my new GI tomorrow. This could get interesting. If this one's just another idiot like the rest he/she is gonna be sorry they ever heard my name. :hallo3:

Good luck! Do you have a list of questions or concerns that you plan on bringing up? A good doctor will go through the whole list (unless it's 10 pages, then they will go over as much as they can). Hope it goes well. :)

Truth is I'm more interested in the questions that'll be asked of me. Been several years since my last scope. Really wanting to know what's really going on in there. Last GI never asked me about this after over 15 min of Q&A.

Well they'll want to know all of your current symptoms (be sure to mention anything even if it doesn't involve your bowels like joint pain, headaches, eye issues etc). They'll likely want to schedule a colonoscopy (and possibly an upper endoscopy, might as well have both done at the same time) and order blood work (be sure to have your vitamin levels tested to check if you're low or deficient in anything). Then they'll likely palpate and listen to your abdomen. It's been a while since I've been to a new GI but those are the basics. Many years ago it was common to do a visual rectal exam in office as well but I haven't encountered any in recent years who do it unless you ask them to.

Let us know how it goes. :)

At my very first appointment last year, during my very first flare, and before I was diagnosed, the consultant examined me with a rigid sigmoid scope. I had no warning, no preparation, and to say I was surprised is an understatement 😯
I'm glad I'd at least had a wash and changed my underwear prior to the 6.30pm appointment. It wasn't embarrassing or painful, both the nurse and the consultant explained what he was about to do, and my husband was present as it was done in the consultants office. It took about five minutes.
Expect the unexpected 😉

Well I met my new GI. She's chinese, her name? Dr. Sara Lee. No you can't make this stuff up. Scheduled for a scope thursday. Tomorrow will be busy.

Good luck on your scope! When I first met my current GI he wanted to do a scope/test on me right away too. Just means they're wanting to jump right in to see what's happening with you. I hope things turn out well. Lots of hugs to you... :)

Sorry to hear that. The Pred should kick in within a few days to help you start feeling better and hopefully once you've tapered off of it the 6MP will have had enough time to start kicking in. What dose of each are they starting you on?

Well now it seems that the GI wants to wait 2 more weeks to "consult" about the 6mp. Guess who aint happy about this. :angry-banghead:. This by the time this is done I'll have 9 weeks invested in this mess. When it should only have taken 2 days.

Have they done the special blood test for 6MP? Sorry I forgot its name but takes approximately two weeks for results here and they really shouldn't start 6MP without the results.

6 mp is serious stuff and there should be no rushing into it. There is a blood test that should be done first and it takes time to get the results back. The fact that your GI is consulting someone first is a good safety measure, so try not to see this as a waste of time.

Since you clearly needed the colonoscopy anyway, how do you figure all of this should have taken only 2 days?

Last time it only took that long.So why now are they playing "kick the can"?
