Tongue pain?

Did anyone of you guys experience tongue soreness/burning/fissuring before a crohn’s/IBD diagnosis ?!

I have been having bad toungue pain with fissuring, and I just don’t know what to do. I have proctatis so doubt it’s due to malnutrition or vitamin deficiency.

What do you mean by fissuring? I am new to this, but I’m addition to getting mouth ulcers, my tongue was in pain and I had deep grooves, almost like cuts, in it on the top. There were a few of them and they were fairly long. They hurt and burned with I ate certain things.

Hey, yeh! by fissuring I mean grooves and ‘cuts’. I have been having them for like two months now. Sometimes they come and go. I don’t know if I get ulcers since everything seems to be on my tongue. Haven’t really had mouth ulcers on my gums. I tried telling my GI doctor about this symptom but he said to ask my primary doctor to refer me to a mouth and toungue specialist. It’s so annoying because I want a diagnosis. And here I am trying to help him come up with a diagnosis but he seems to not take these symptoms like possible crohn symptoms. I know my body and it just doesn’t feel right. Along with tongue pain, I have really bad joint pain 😐

I haven’t had and mouth/ joint issues until years after I was diagnosed. Crohn’s is tricky to diagnose because the symptoms are so different for everybody and there’s usually a long process of elimination of other possible conditions.

Not sure if you live in the US, but ruling out possible causes is required most of the time by insurance companies. My guess is if the specialist thinks its caused by some GI issue, they will have your GI Dr. investigate it more.

good luck and hope you feel better.

Yeh that’s what sucks about IBD. It’s different for everyone. But thanks! Yes I am in California. Well, my GI seems like he is thoroughly investigating it. Finally got my second colonoscopy scheduled for Sept 10. Hopefully I’ll get answers then!
