What type of cell phone do you have (as in the operating system)...

iPhone, Blackberry, Palm WebOS, Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian, not a smartphone, or don't own a cell phone.

A normal cell phone for my personal use and for work I have a blackberry storm and a regular cell phone.

I have a Motorola Q that is sooo old, but every time I look to get something new, I just can't bring myself to do it. It's the blasted reviews I read (same trouble I had with getting a blu ray player!) Would like to get a Droid....maybe....some day.

All to confusing to me! Haven't even heard of most of those things! I have a cellphone for work that I am also allowed to use for personal use for texts. Its a wee flip top Sanyo thing. The less complicated the better as far as I am concerned!

I have a blackberry....I dont use 1/2 the things on there that I can... I actually wound up taking the internet off the phone when I stopped working. Realized yes it was a waste of $20 more a month when I hardly used the internet and I was constantly surrounded by computers with access to the internet all day anyway. Didnt make sense!

I've had my same phone now for over 5 years. My plan is so out dated that I don't even have the texting function. Although it was one of the phones with internet capabilities back then...I need an update, but I detest my hubbies Blackberry. I always end up dialing the wrong person because of the touch screen. I need buttons. I didn't vote because I don't think my current phone is listed. It's a flip LG???

I have the LG enV Touch for Verizon. It has a touch screen and a keyboard, which I prefer. My wife just got the HTC Imagio, and that is a smart phone. Fun to play with, too.

Anyone upgrading or have any questions about cell phones, I used to be a Technical Territory Manager working with Verizon Wireless and I have a lot friends in the industry. I have been in the wireless industry for around 5 years.

Any questions, shoot a question to me, I'll do my best to answer it or get it answered for you.

The Droid is a very capable phone that will eventually take an iphone and slap it around.

I have a Blackberry, and I can manage to make a call on it, which is all I do with it.

It is loaded with potential features that I can easily ignore.

I bought it used, from my Niece, when I replaced my hated Samsung.

I could use a crank phone for my own use.

Dan

I had the Instinct but kept calling my boss my accident and deleting my speed dial. So, I got the Lotus which is a flip and downloaded Opera for the Internet. I'd love to get another Palm as my Centro had an awesome camara, maybe when I get tons of money I can get the Pixi.

Ugh I hear you about the stupid touch screen - I HATE those!!!!!!! I have a Crackberry, but it's the World version, so it's not a touch screen. It's a little over a year old now, which is probably considered ancient (lol) but I'm in love with it:

OMG, how awful was it always calling your boss?? LOL!!!

Thanks RIS.

I have a Blackberry Pearl. I love the blackberry, but not liking having 2 letters per button, my next will be a bold or something like it.

Im not big on touch screen, as I like to feel the actuall buttons, and my last phone I broke the outer screen on it like 3 times! I can just imagine what I would do to one that is all screen!

Heres my pearl.

I've got a piece of junk that broke yesterday so I'm borrowing the same model but my dad's old phone and I found out half of the features don't work. I want an Iphone. It would make life so much simpler since I already have a mac that I could easily have my entire address book on my phone in less than a minute. I just need money to buy the phone.

Samsung camera phone and I don't use that. Just need a simple phone to call Janis once in a while. To many options just confuses me. Don't take much.( beat you guys to it)

T-mobile is gonna be the first, with other carriers like Verizon planning to follow. Really, the major difference between it and the other Android phones on the market right now is that it's running Android 2.1, which the others (Droid, Eris, etc.) will be getting soon too.

It will have a slightly larger processor than the ones on the market, but a kinda sub-par screen in comparison.

Give and take. :) But basically, Android is an amazing platform.

Apparently it isn t available up here either creepy. Looks pretty sweet though.
Dec you sure know your phones! :p

lol, I did a LOT of research on Android phones lately... probably because I bought one. ;) So loads of research before I bought it and loads about Android since then so I could figure out the mini computer I call my phone.

The Nexus One is the new Google phone. Instead of a crazy bonus this year, Google employees got the Nexus One phone, lol. Good stuff.

I have a Blackberry Curve 8320 and a MyTouch 3g (cause Android rawks my socks). I lusted after the Cliq but then I used the hard keyboard (similar to the Droid) and I hate it. Moto needs to come up with a better design or adopt the Blackberry design. I am now lusting after the Blackberry Bold that T-Mobile just started carrying.

LOL... yeah, I gotta say the hard keyboard does kinda stink. Everyone has said you get used to it, but I've had the Droid for two months now and have honestly never used it cuz I just didn't like it... thankfully the virtual keyboard is pretty sweet. Sweet enough for me to post this using it. ;)

My boss gave me a Motorola phone once and kept calling saying ridiculous things and generally making an ass of himself. Mysteriously the phone ended up under the wheel of the company truck.

Hey Jess - are you *in love* with your Droid? I really want to switch but am ansy about it. I have a phone now that is similar to the Blackberry and I like the tactile buttons - not sure I would be happy with the v-keyboard thing. How is your battery life? Everyone seems to complain about short battery life the most.

The Droid and Cliq both have tactile hardware keyboards in addition to the soft keyboard. I suggest you play with the phone first to see if you like the hardware keyboard, as I mentioned above, it's the only reason I wouldn't get a Cliq/Droid because I'm in love with the Blackberry design for their hardware keyboards. Battery life can suck but if you turn off bluetooth, GPS sats, Cell Loc and if it has it Wifi when you're not using them it can significantly increase the battery life. I've managed to get 2 days of stand by in that config on the MyTouch.

Will they not ship to Canada?

I don't know that much about the Canadian networks, so I don't know if it will even work there.

I do *love* my Droid. It's rather amazing.

I'd recommend playing with it in store though. Or... really utilizing the 30 days you have to play with the phone and return it if you don't care for it. lol, and as much as I love it, I'd also say wait a little bit if you can. Verizon is rolling out 3 new Android phones soon as I've heard from a friend who's a manager for a Verizon store. So... there will be more choices soon.

For me, the Droid wouldn't have been my first choice. I like smaller, lighter phones. The Droid definitely is neither... lol... and not quite so "cute" either. It's cuter now with my purple case on it though. ;) But I got used to that stuff pretty quickly, and now, it feels weird to hold a small, feather light phone. Like I said, I haven't used the physical keyboard at all, so I can't comment on that. Some people have told me they don't understand the complaints and love it. I suspect they have smaller fingers. lol. Some people told me it's a learning curve to deal with it, but one they got pretty quickly. Some just plain HATE it. The virtual one is great to me, and all the keyboard apps that give me a choice of which I prefer is nice. However, that's me, and I deal pretty well with virtual keyboards.

Android in general is a great platform that I'm stoked for. I love how much I can customize it to suit me and my needs. It's awesome.

Battery life hasn't been a problem for me at all. The first couple days, I was afraid it would be, but since it went though a couple charge cycles and "conditioned," it's been great. On a light use day, I'll end the day with about 80-90% of my battery. Medium use, about 60-70%. Even with my heaviest use during the honeymoon phase with it, I wasn't really getting below 50% too much. Like yesterday for example... I hadn't charged it Saturday night at all. Gave it a quick, less than an hour charge Sunday morning. Then used it all day yesterday and a LOT last night. I went to bed with it at 20%, which isn't too terrible for almost 48 hours with only and hour of charge time. And I keep my GPS up all the time. Disable Wifi and Bluetooth, but not GPS. With lighter use, I have gone two full days on a single charge.

So yeah... I guess that answers enough. ;)

Edit: The one thing I'm LOVING about it over Blackberries I've seen seem silly, but they're convenience factors to me. Well, actually, I love a lot, including running multiple apps. It's sweet. I think my phone usually has about 4-5 browser windows up at a time, like I would if I was surfing the net on my computer. BUT, not my point here... lol. A lot of Blackberries I've seen won't do ANYTHING, including making calls, when the battery level gets below 20% or whatever. That's annoying as all heck to me. Heck, my friend's Blackberry wouldn't even do anything on the charger when her battery level was too low. Didn't make sense to me at ALL since it was on the charger. And I don't have to reboot it and remove the battery daily like I've seen with a lot of Blackberries.

There's always a way out of crap phones. I can help if you want.

I have a htc touch pro 2- verizon. I love it! i can surf the web anywhere! Its my best friend since crohn's. yes i know thats sad. :)

I have an LG flip-phone...it doesn't do much, but that's ok since I can never find it....lol

have an HTC tattoo and apart from shocking battery life it has good apps, fab wifi access and has interchangeable covers so can replace when i drop it! hee hee which is often. also has a windows operating system and because i dont do apple or ipod or anything, i stick with sony for my mp3 player and dont like messing, just clicking and dragging folders across works for me. touch screen takes a bit of getting used to tho!

I also have the Samsung Gravity.

I thought of getting a crackberry but I couldn't justify spending an extra $35 a month for data service when I am always around a computer anyways. Our house is also located in the middle of the woods, so we already pay a premium just for internet service.

Wanting a new phone...

I have an LG phone under AT&T. I can't wait to get a new phone. The ear piece stopped working, so anytime I use the phone I have to put it on speakerphone. Pretty inconvenient, I'd say. My 2 year plan is up this fall and I don't want to wait, but I worry they'll restart my 2 yr plan even if I get a replacement phone that is the same model.

I was thinking of getting a Blackberry or iPhone. Anyone have any opinions if a Mac user would find it easier to use an iPhone over a Blackberry? What would you say the advantages of having a smart phone over a regular phone would be?

Hey dreamintwilight... have you thought of going on ebay and getting a replacement phone there until you can get one through your provider? Usually they are pretty cheap and you can get whichever you'd like. I just sold my Samsung Gravity on ebay because I upgraded to the MyTouch with t-mobile. But that way it wouldn't affect your current plan and you'd be able to have a working functional phone.

Wow, I'm the only Symbian voter, though not by choice, the Nokia X6 was the best available for free on my plan at the time :(

Once either I need a bigger plan, have money to spare and/or the handsets get cheap enough, I'll be going for an Android phone, either Samsung Galaxy or a HTC I think, unless Google come out with something spectacular (since they use HTC hardware anyway)

I'm surprised by the number of people using CrackBlackBerry phones still! They were popular here until other smartphones hit, but I don't think I have any friends still using them. Admittedly most of these people are 20-something network engineers/system administrators/etc that have been pushing to get rid of the notorious BES systems that BlackBerry relies on for enterprise use, and move to standard systems to support most handsets. My GP still has one, but he only uses it for voice/sms, so I don't think that counts :)

So true, though perhaps more of the Android OS in general, there are plenty of capable Android phones around now

I've got a Nokia E71 so I'm using Symbian, as well. I'm looking to get something new soon. I want to see how Windows Phone 7 goes but I'll probably end up with an Android device.

I have had a Palm Pre since they came out last year and I have had and used various PDAs and Smart Phones for a long time. I will tell you this. The Web OS is so far superior to any other operating system including the iOS apple uses its not even funny. I own apple products too. I am actually on a Macbook Pro right now. No wonder HP bought Palm for 1.2 billion USD. This is a gem and as soon as Hp releases a slate computer with the Web OS on it I will be one of the first to buy one. Normally I would not be so enthusiastic about a gadget but in light of all the fanboys and girls of andriod, and the iphone I think someone should say something of the superior nature of this operating system... I can and do run my entire business from my phone. Everyone that I know who has either a PRE or a PIXI phone is in love with the darn thing. LOL . I am, like a lot of people, waiting to see what is in store from HP in the coming months.....anticipation!

Mine's a Samsung Juke. It's just a 2GB MP3 Player, a 320p camera and a phone, that's it. No internet access, games, or apps. But I love it since it's tiny!

I have a Samsung Intensity II, no internet. I have no desire to be connected 24/7. I tend to turn my phone ringer off at night. If you need me urgently, you know my land line number! Must be a generational/profession thing.

I had my first cell phone for about 4-5 years. I was ready to upgrade and also thinking about buying an mp3 player at the same time, when I realized that an iphone could be purchased cheaper than a ipod touch.

I bought the 3G on the day before the 3GS came out, as this was the last day you could buy an Iphone in Canada (I believe) that did not require a data plan. I enjoy to use my phone as an mp3 player and to access the web through wifi, but I really dont feel like paying for a data plan yet.

So far I have had it for 1.5 years and am happy with it. It does not have all the featurs of the 4G iphone or other phones, but it has more than enough to satisfy me.
