• Welcome to Crohn's Forum, a support group for people with all forms of IBD. While this community is not a substitute for doctor's advice and we cannot treat or diagnose, we find being able to communicate with others who have IBD is invaluable as we navigate our struggles and celebrate our successes. We invite you to join us.

UK people, join your local support group!

Hi all, I realise people from all over the world are members but can I just point all the UK people to the support groups heading and ask them to join their local respective groups if they want to.

Areas have been made for most UK towns and cities and some have joined their local groups and are hoping to find others locally to arrange meetups and just to say hello to someone local who understands!

Some groups have 0 locals in and others have just 1 poor person who has joined, don't leave your local group without you!

Cheers.

I'm not sure where you mean, I could only see one for Manchester ?
If you look at the headings under the big Crohn's logo at the top you will see

New Posts / Blog / Search / et etc keep looking right and then click Support Groups

then scroll down and you should see a decent amount of uk towns and cities support groups which town/city is local to you as if it isn't there anyone or myself can add others if i missed any main ones.

HTH

Hmmm must be me. I did that but can't see a list of towns etc. I can see headings with a list of links under each one, but only one that says Manchester.

2 secs i will link you the manchester support group

EDIT: Here's the link for all support groups...

http://www.crohnsforum.com/sgroups.php

then just look in the last third of the page eg go to bottom of that linked page then scroll up slowly about 4 inches worth of screen and you should see lots of uk town/cities.

Thanks. This takes me to the same page. I'm using an iPad, I wonder if it's that. I can see headings, like General IBD and parents of kids with IBD, and they all have links beneath them. I'm baffled!

Yep, I think I can only see support groups I've clicked on previously. So if I can't see the towns and cities I can never click on them ha ha.

i may be able to give you the link directly to your local town - it may work on the ipad...

So you are moving from Manchester... where to next?

Thanks, I think I like Manchester :)
This is the last thing I can try and do to help you and other ipad users to join groups...

Thanks for this, but I get this message.

Connie01, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

So I have no idea why. But thanks anyway xx

You are only supposed to be able to see the support group for your area. So if you got an error message for the other ones, its ok. Wellen1981, I am not sure why you can see several of the UK support groups, but thank you for encouraging people to use them, we all need to find ways to stick together.

@Connie01

I’m not exactly sure what the issue is bit go to the blue tool bar at the top of the page: Click on settings
Scroll down the left page menu to Settings and Options and the last option in the box is Local Support Group Options. Click on this.
Then choose your options but ensure you select...I want to participate in the Local Support Group system.

Dusty. :)

Wellen made all those support groups under the UK support group. Everyone should be able to access this link IF they are from the UK. http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=96

When you are logged in on a computer and then on the dark blue bar along the top eg New Posts, Blog, Search, Quick Links, Settings, Chat, Doctor Directory, Resources, Support Groups...

If you go onto support groups there is a button at the top called 'Create Support Group' The UK is not like america, by that I mean people arent as mobile in the UK and tend to stick to smaller areas so just having a support group for UK wasn't allowing people to actually band together locally and worse still, it meant that most of us had no idea who our local crohnies were!

So I made support groups for main towns/cities in the UK to allow people to join local support groups as it should help people to band together compared to just having 1 single support group for the whole of the UK.

Granted I can see them all as I made them however others have joined their local UK town/city support no problems and I can only assume that they were on web browsers on pc and users on mobile devices and tablets/ipads may not get to see the forum completely in the same way - I will have a look myself later today on various different mobile devices to see if that is why the support groups for local UK towns dont display - but even if i do check and they show for me, I guess it could still mean that they show for me as i made the groups.

To check for sure, people in the UK would need to access this forum from a computer with a web browser (i use windows and firefox) and then login, click on the support groups at the top in the dark blue bar along the top then scroll down near the bottom of the page for the UK support groups section - that is where each town/city is listed for access. Then it is just a case of subscribing to your local UK group

Also, Hull now made :thumleft:

Still no luck for me. Could be my iPad.
I checked on an iPad 2 and ipad3 after the section with the Manchester group you just wipe to see further down for the local uk town and city groups. I haven't got access to an iPad 1 if that's what you have though... This test was on safari browser by the way.
