What does resection do?

Hi,
I have had crohn's since 15...I am 43 now.

It caused major problems in my until around age 25..faded away and gradually returned in the form of constipation.This is now making life almost impossible.

No job,or life outside my room,for the last 4-5 years..leg pain and mostly I have to lie down all the time,because of discomfort and lack of energy.

When my bowels work,I am physically well,but as they don't,this is rare.Maybe 1 day in a fortnight. I have tried everything from a normal doctor.Nothing works.

This is a mild retelling of the situation..it is effectively,a frustrating waste of a good life.

Does anybody have any experience with resection...?

I'm sorry that you could not find the "right" medication for you. Did you have the chance to take part in a medical trial? My doctor offers this to those who did not respond to any treatment.
Well, I was told that resection is only useful if there is a lot of scar tissue because resection does not cure Crohn's. You can resect the inflamed part of the intestine but after a while another part might start to inflame. This is one possible result, the other is that you feel "cured" and won't have any symptoms for ages as some forum members do.

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear about the issues you are having now.

Resection surgery is used to remove scarred and narrowed sections of bowel or diseased sections of bowel that have not responded to any treatment. I've had a number of resections and strictureplasties for strictures.

Have you had any imaging done recently?

Aha! I visited the crohn's specialist top doctor today.It seems I have a megacolon situation and will possibly need to have it removed,partially,at least.

This was a shock,but apparently a person can live a normal life after such an operation,so that has to be positive.

My dr has suggested surgery for me to have a 10 cm stricture due to scar tissue in my small intestine removed and I'm quite nervous about it. I met with one surgeon that didn't think it needed immediate surgery however my GI recommended surgery for me so that's who's opinion I am going with. I have typed out my story on my page and don't want to retype all that but if you feel like reading it and giving me any insight whatsoever I would greatly appreciate it
