Each person who reads this, please list at least 1 food that you highly recommend that works for you and your crohns or other IBD.

I will start the thread off with Oatmeal

Salmon, mashed potatoes, rice, chicken, avocados, seaweed, soy everything, tuna, peaches pretty much my diet for the last 7 months. Now I'm a tank again eating whatever I want.

I don't eat red meat anymore and this has changed my life!
I eat loads of fish, chicken, rice, potatoes and bananas.
I eat chocolate too, I can't give this up cos I love it, but I do pay after!

I agree with you Astra. I don't eat red meat anymore either and I've seen a huge difference! I don't eat chocolate of any kind though, as its worse than meat for me.

Seafood is my staple and usually pretty easy on my stomach.

I don't do too well with fruit, but I've found these fruit bars (kinda like a fruit roll up) at Trader Joe's which don't cause me any problems.

Yay! I do, and it's working for me (except the chocolate)
my favourite is salmon, mashed potatoes and broccoli, all mashed up with butter! My gut loves this very much!

Beef works well for me - so long as it is lean and doesn't have too much grisle. Salmon is good. I love oatmeal, however, those around me don't appreciate me quite as much a few hours later!

Pretty much the low residue diet is the safest bet, IBD is starting to trickle into the Asian population due to the increase level of preservatives in their foods like America and Europe, but they still do have the lowest rate of it.

Low residue...right now no fruits or veggies what so ever. Red meat, chicken fish, shellfish, eggs and most potato products and dairy.

I'm trying to eliminate all refined carbs from diet, such as pasta, white bread...yet I cannot tolerate whole grains, or whole wheat.

At this time, I consider myself a true carnivore ...eating almost all animal products...and have been doing pretty fantastic

I drink coffee, but it depends on the day. If tummy is iffy, then I don't. I love coffee!

What foods I tolerate are yogurt, pudding, ramen noodles and Arby's Roast Beef!

I have forgotten all about pudding, I used to eat that all the time. You just reminded me to put that on my list tommorrow. I will have to try the Arbys roast beef.

Baked tilapia, it's really good with lemon and garlic. It's one of my safe foods! And thankfully it is delicious. :ysmile:

Nikimazur have you considered going paleo?

I have been on paleo till this latest flare up. I consider myself paleo, except right now with limited veggies and fruits. I love my tubers(some paleos love them/others despise) when I can handle them, and same with fruits and veggies. I will add back my fruits and veggies in full force when I can handle them

Paleo has been amazing. I do sometimes cheat with dairy products, but those are often special treats.

Chicken broth, mashed potatoes, grilled fish or baked fish.
I can NOT eat any raw veggies, corn is out of the question, but I can eat cooked carrots and grilled or baked chicken. That's about it..I miss a lot of foods I used to love, like salad and beet greens, and cucumber sandwiches.

Eggs (NOT fried in butter), poached, fried with smidge of olive oil, Mc Donalds Egg McMuffin with cheese (WITHOUT bacon or sausage or anything else), coca-cola, Salmon grilled or raw (in Japanese food) and most white flesh fish grilled, white rice, oats (porridge or oatmeal biscuits), white bread and margarine (olive oil based), Plum jelly/jam, vegemite, spinach (small amounts well steamed), chicken grilled, roast potato without skin, roast pumpkin, pumpkin soup, lettuce leaves in small amounts (not the white part). That's a start :)

Yogurt with ground flax & coconut oil. I have just recently added coconut oil to my diet because of all the great benefits including its anti-inflammatory properties. Chicken, turkey, fish...lots of cooked vegetables, rice, potatoes. Trying to stay away from red meat & sugar.

Why do you think you flared? Is it because you ate a cheat food?

For me..it's chicken soup I make with organic chicken with carrots, onion, and celery cooked all day..poached eggs on gluten free toast, mashed potatoes..

I can tolerate just about anything except the following:

high fat meats (sausage,etc)
eggs (gas/cramps from hell)
dark chocolate

At this point, with me not being treated or on any kind of meds, it seems I do not tolerate anything really. What is the worst for me is red meat (especially ground beef hamburgers), corn (especially popcorn) and anything deep fried. Until I get help and get on some kind of treatment, I will not be able to get a grip on what I can tolerate.

I know this is stupid but McDonalds. I don't know why.

McDonalds is not stupid, I regularly have an Egg McMuffin, without bacon or sausage, ie: just the muffin, egg and cheese, seems to agree with my gut and gives me morning protein. Good cheap breakfast!

I also recently switched from regular supermarket milk to organic, right from the farm (yes, it does come in those cute glass containers!). I've seen a HUGE difference, as I couldn't tolerate milk very well before and now I can have a glass a day with no problem. Helps increase my calcium and Vitamin D too.

Totally agree, Gra.

I've been having these for a few years now, periodically. Before my operation, I couldn't tolerate them at all, they would just cause cramps and gas, but since my operation, I can tolerate them okay, they just sometimes go through me a bit.

I had one this morning. It's a wee bit greasy, but it is filling and damn tasty. :thumright:

Right now,

I find these foods work pretty well for me.

White bread

Tuna

Mayonaise

Bannanas.....not too many though.

White rice.....basmati, boiled, etc.

Standard frozen oven chips.

Mashed potato

Chicken

Fish

Bacon....with the fat cut off.

Certain type of crisps, flavours depending. I tend to stick to a handful of flavours I know are safe with me, cheese & onion, chicken, smoky bacon, steak & onion.

There are others, but these are my regular foods that work for me.

It seems red meat doesn't sit well with a lot of people. I don't eat beef, burgers or streak or anything like that either, but a good white meat to try is bacon with the fat cut off before you grill it, it has worked really well for me.

It's a big no no with the fat, but once the fat's removed, you're left with a tasty source of protein that has yet to give me any adverse reaction or trouble.

Steaks and burgers don't bother me at all. But i do notice that greasy meats do like bacon(fat on) and sausage make me sick. I don't think i metabolize fat right. Anyone else notice that.

I seem to do well with bananas, chicken broth, plain white rice, plain animal crackers to name just a few. I'm still learning... Oh and pretzels. They seem to settle my tummy.

I have not problem with bacon at all! Actually, its the only type of fatty substance I can eat, so I end up eating it at least once a week!

Michael, when I was diagosed soooo many years ago, my GI only said "if it bothers you then don't eat it" unless he ordered me to a special diet, like a low fat/low residue one. Sounds so unhelpful to others, but I have never excluded anything. I find that it might bother me one time I eat it, and the next it might not. Eggs depend on how they are cooked, etc. Now as far as lettuce, iceburg is awful for me, but darker greens suit my body better, even raw spinach on a subway sandwich instead of lettuce.
That being said, if I am having a bad gut day, I will tend towards things like mashed potatoes and gravy, or a baked potato (no skin)

My comfort list of safe food;
Rice bubbles
Semolina
Ice cream
Farmers union feel good iced coffee ( somedays I live on this alone)
Mashed potatoe and mashed potato sandwiches (firm favorite)
Milk based drinks
Pumpkin and sweet potatoe.
Funnily enough I love fish and seafood but do pay for it. Usually have a couple of bad days after eating it.
Small piece of fillet steak
