What makes a bad doctor list

I've had some real characters, not just for IBD, so wanted to start a thread which generates a list in one place.

First of all, a bad doctor is NOT one who is hard to pin down- all good doctors I've had seem to be like that. Good doctors are well known and thus very busy.

Remember, IBD has no known cause (yet), so it is a tricky one that's really best diagnosed after physically looking at the tissue through a scope and biopsy.

So, here is my list. You may object, or have others. Please share!

1. You have been diagnosed and started drugs. You are not getting better and the doctor asks you "are you even taking the medicine I prescribed?" Seriously, this happened to me before my Lasik PRK eye surgery. :(

2. Doctor tells you that you aren't that sick, despite your symptoms. Doctors should be more empathetic and not judge your level of sickness. Especially with diseases not so understood, like IBD.

3. You are having a very bad day with your sickness and call the doctor's office. No call back. Not with this disease doc, please make sure to call back.

4. After you are admitted to the hospital, the doctor says you that you shouldn't be there very long, but since you were just admitted no tests have been done yet. Ok, I doubt doctors really do that, but my dad did- tried his best to calm me when I was hospitalized for the second time in one year, and he's a doctor (internal medicine). That just bugged me.

We all know what good docs are- it's like pornagraphy, you know it when you see it. :ylol2:

Looking forward to your lists!

Here's a list of my own:

1. It takes forever to get hold of the doctor in the first place when I just start flaring and can't get any help at all until I'm in full flare. :sign0085:

2. I get called in to make an appt only to spend $200 or more in order to be told what I already know and try to sell me on Remicade. Also mentioning that every patient that's gone on the drug has loved Remicade so much that she's never heard from them again. Doesn't realize that they're so fed up with her that they may have changed doctors.:ymad:

3. I start dripping blood with my diarrhea and painful BMS, email the doctor for help which she has a nurse call me and I end up getting the same info from the office that I could have gotten over the computer. On top of this, all she wants to do to help me is to decrease my prednisone and increase my asacol in which the asacol already isn't doing anything for me. At the same time this phone call is taking place I'm being pressured for another appt with the doctor.:poo:

4. After decreasing the prednisone and increasing the asacol, she's wanting me to contact her in 2 weeks to let her know how I'm doing. :ybatty:

5. I'm getting more help from my pharmacy than I am from the doctor.:voodoo:

the not returning phone calls is a big one. or canceling appointment and not rescheduling a new one

when talking about a symptom that is your only symptom and you've been seeing her for a year about it and was the bases for you dx. announcing randomly i don't know why you have that, that's not a normal symptom (when it is)

How about when your Dr forgets to come in and do his rounds when you are in the hospital?

How about when you call the Drs office say, before your first Remicade treatment, to ask about stopping Entocort, or not? Should I be adding something else? After all I am not in remission, thats why I am going on Remicade??

UHG!

I think any doctor that is not into working with you as a partner makes a bad doctor.

I don't believe in being blindly obedient to a MD.

How about when the doctor has a long conversation with your mom about why he thinks your gay... yea that happened with my first GI

My doctor asking me "What grade are you in?"

I'm 23.

When they never look at you when they are talking.
They don't answer your questions.

My very first GI told me I was an idiot. I got a transfer to someone else... my first appointment she tells me she is going on maternity leave, and I will be going back to my first doctor. FML...

I LOVE my Nurse Practitioner!

All the doctors I've been to, every time their treatment fails me they take it as a personal offence to their expertise. Worst part is they insist over the failed treatment and you end up having every side effect linked to it but will they stop it? no..They think upping the dosage will solve the problem!

I have no problems with the doctors I go too. It's always the nurses I have problems with....

Just this past visit, I was scheduled to have my TB test checked and get shown how to do my Humeria. So the nurse that shows how to do Humeria was busy so they made me wait about 45min till she was done, only to bring me back and say that I was wrong and I don't get shown how to do it till next week...

When you have to explain to the doctors secretary in detail what Chrons desease is, and what it does to your body, before you are granted an audience...and you have to repeat it all to the doctor when you finally get an apointment...

Oh, and the docs who sit with their back to you, looking into their computer screen and typing trough the whole visit...

When you call the advice nurse because your hands are shaking so bad that you almost can't even call and they call back ignoring your complaint that the meds you're on aren't working. Instead of decreasing any meds they increase the stuff that isn't working along with more stuff. Btw the over the counter stuff they're telling you to take actually helps the cold you've got, but nothing else!
